With the #EUCS, the European Commission is trying to introduce "sovereignty" requirements and offers a voluntary three-stage certification for providers of cloud structures. It all sounds good in theory. The preferred option is a coordinated approach across member states to support the #digitaltransition and the completion of the #digitalsinglemarket. However, the devil is in the details. According to a leaked draft of the document, only those companies headquartered within the #EU would receive the highest level of security. This could exclude non-European providers from large parts of the EU market for cloud services (and could displace them altogether), putting both smaller companies in Europe that use #BigTech's services and government institutions, whose servers also rely on their infrastructure, in a difficult position.
