We know every place or community within Edinburgh is different. And we know people who live in a community are passionate about how the place in which they live should develop. Now, you have your chance to influence how land within your community is used or developed. Through a Local Place Plan, you can highlight what matters in your area: - which buildings, spaces and places are important - what does and does not work well in your area - the aspirations for your community. Local Place Plans are a new type of plan introduced by the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019. These new plans mean communities and the Council can truly collaborate on how Edinburgh develops in future as the Council must consider registered Local Place Plans when preparing City Plan 2040, our next local development plan. These plans must be led by any properly constituted community group or organisation. Examples of such groups are community councils, residents’ associations, Friends of Edinburgh greenspace groups or groups that represent particular people or interests like retailer or business associations. The Local Place Plan is a chance for you to shape the future of your place by creating a plan that addresses your needs or concerns. Find out more about developing a local place plan for your community. Our team will help you to start planning your community’s future https://lnkd.in/eQ-qP3MF You can also find case studies and helpful guides on www.ourplace.scot While you are here As we begin to create City Plan 2040, we want to make sure we keep you or your organisation informed and make it easier to get involved. Do you prefer in-person or online meetings? Would you drop-in to an exhibition? Are you happy to fill in surveys or consultations? What else would help you have your say? Please help us to make it easier for you to get involved in shaping your city’s future https://lnkd.in/eMBpMXcR #planning #localplaceplans #communities

Hopefully the plan is figuring out how to solve our existing problems in town, as well as around our schools like damaged streets, speeding in our school zones, & making it safer for all students who walk to school before we continue to keep building apartments/houses. Every morning when I drop my kiddos off at school, I can’t help but to be annoyed at the fact that so many people are such in a rush, they don’t take in regard for any student that may be walking to school. Our “small” city is growing. No doubt about that. But when the speed limit in the school zone is 25 and you have people going 35 constantly, it’s entirely aggravating. There’s never any police presence overseeing. Not to mention, the “back roads” which my main way to and from home, is constantly getting congested now due to adding more apartments/ houses and now a LAGOON. Peoples land/ranches have been bought out and our city can’t even fix the problems we have now. Or what about the fact that the streets are all uneven beyond what you expect. If you’re not going 10, you might misalign your vehicles. No speed limit signs posted so people go whatever speed they want to, and don’t even get me started on 380! It is the worst hwy going through town ever!! It’s dangerous to say the least. Two lanes each way, and constant accidents every day. Something’s gotta give. I hope she has solutions to move in the right direction.

Dear Tacoma: This is why we can't have nice things Ever wonder why local gems close suddenly? Here's why and how we can change it: Local businesses struggle. Without investor backing, they're vulnerable. Big names like Apple attract funds, while small neighborhood ventures self-fund, risking all. Many consumers prefer shopping at renowned brands, sidelining local businesses. This profit-driven mindset affects local news too; we hear only the sensational. This damages our city's image and morale, implying Tacoma doesn't matter. But there's hope. Weekly Volcano, a media company by Tacoma for Tacoma, aims to change this. It's our city's pulse, promoting local stories and businesses. They're launching an online mall for Tacoma businesses. This initiative will boost local shopping, benefiting our community. Join the change by subscribing to the Weekly Volcano Newsletter. Stay updated without social media filters. Let's redefine Tacoma's future together. #SupportLocal #TacomaFirst Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gKR5QZYQ

Double-header day as a proud erstwhile 20-year San Franciscan: I joined Luis Mendoza in presenting DNCO's strategic and creative work combatting SF's downtown 'doom loop' at the same time our studio's new identity for City Nation Place was launched at the conference. Luis and I presented our learnings to an international crowd of city and nation brand managers — happy to reprise to anyone who missed, send me a DM. Summary of our learnings: 1 — Bring public and private together when working on city campaigns, not just for research, but actually to co-create and agree a way forward. 2 — Define a place purpose, a meaningful reason that everyone feels deeply and can get behind. Make it more than live work play. For San Francisco it was "We believe bringing different together is how we create better together" — that's absolutely the secret sauce in San Francisco's success. Difference, diversity, and being able to be whoever you are. 3 — Commit to action, by which we mean put a good budget forward and over a long period of time. Not just one confetti popper pull, but years worth of change. San Francisco is doing just that. And they've done it fast. 4 — Be authentic but not expected. There are so many tropes with famous destinations, and what we heard loud and clear was that San Franciscans feel they are more than a 'bridge' and more than the colour international orange. We were proud to create a dynamic identity that had more of an innovation angle (our remit) and that were still able to hide a bit of the bridge in there without it punching you in the face. 5 — Make your story punchy and personal. We partnered with a local film company to ensure we were able to fully capture local sentiment and had local legend Giants broadcaster narrate. The narrative is deeply personal "they said this city changed me, but I told them, this city made me". It certainly made me. My personal victory is that my mom, a long-time San Franciscan who absolutely found herself in that city, cried when she watched. The best bit of our talk was showing the headlines before the campaign vs the headlines after. The press is the hardest critic. There is a way to go but the mood is definitely changing. But anyone who doubts San Francisco's ability to recover does not understand that city's in-built resilience — from devastating earthquakes, from aids epidemic, from dot-com busts and more. #CNPGlobal23 #sanfrancisco #downtown #citymarketing #DMO #destinationmarketing Clare Dewhirst Katie Parker Photo: Chrissie Winter
