Will Downshiftology survive an AI future? Time will tell. The optimist in me is hopeful for a future where guardrails are put on AI to protect intellectual property, a free and open internet, original sources, search traffic, and small businesses. While many think of me as a "creator" with Downshiftology, it's important to not forget that I'm also an employer and small business owner. There are over 30 million small businesses in the US, and AI has the potential to significantly and negatively affect many of those businesses. With more individuals and industries raising their voices and concerns (thank you Raptive), I look forward to a safe and optimistic future where we coexist with AI. And where I can keep creating healthy recipes, videos, and content for my millions of Downshifters for many years to come!

One thing AI can't replace is the human experience of eating and enjoying FOOD! It sounds like you're better off searching the internet for the perfect recipe, rather than asking AI to build you one for now. #AIrecipes #artificialintelligence https://lnkd.in/gpCDG4Ek

While working on this AI pizza dough thought experiment, I came to the realization that the computers, or at least the programmers, have pulled a sly maneuver. They made bloggers and recipe editors appeal to the algorithm with lengthy and deceptive recipes filled with tangents about ingredients and history to keep readers “engaged.” Then, Boom! AI comes along and whittles it down to the basics. All that SEO research (my own included) is suddenly becoming meaningless, all the H2 subheadlines mere clutter as AI can strip everything out. In the end, I couldn’t help wonder: where do online recipes go from here? #ai #recipes #foodblogger

On August 14, Be My Eyes will expand its beta access to the first app specifically designed to provide image descriptions for the blind using Artificial Intelligence. This has the potential to be a game changer as, unlike existing solutions, this allows the user to ask detailed questions and get accurate detailed answers based on the content of the image so as to get the relevant information quickly and efficiently. For example, you can take a picture of a restaurant menu and ask what the price of the cheeseburger is, or whether the menu has any soups or gluten free options. Perhaps you can take a picture of a chart and ask about the trends, outliers and other datapoints? Welcome to a brave new world.

I'm excited to introduce our newest feature in Lose It! - Voice Logging. If you're on a weight loss journey and want to save time logging your food, this is for you. With AI-powered speech-to-text recognition and an easy-to-use interface, you can now log your meals in seconds. 🌟 One of the exciting design challenges we’ve been facing is teaching people how to communicate effectively with AI. After all, this is the first generation of features of its kind! To ease this interaction, we designed the user interface to be as simple as possible. Informational text guides users on the correct format for logging, an animated circle reflects how loudly you speak, and you get visual feedback about what is being logged. • #loseit #weightloss #uxdesign #uidesign #ai #aidesign #caloriecounting #designer #creativedirector #mobiledesign https://lnkd.in/gv3ueCnA

Sophisticated AI Deepfakes versus some basics still being worked out as Instacart found out with AI generated images and recipies. "Many of the pictures have physically impossible or unlikely compositions, unnatural shadows, and the blending of two visually similar elements into one object." AI means ABP (Always be proofing). https://lnkd.in/gg8MTPdv?

“The GPT-4 rumor mill is a ridiculous thing. I don’t know where it all comes from,” said the Sam Altman last January. And indeed, expectations were high. To add to the hype, jokes on twitter claimed GPT-4 would turn "metal into gold" and "water into wine". But yesterday I found out (last exams in the list on page 5: https://lnkd.in/eW8Y4izz) reality was much better: GPT-4 actually passed three (3) Master Sommelier exams (remember the documentary series SOMM https://lnkd.in/e-pkvqjk). If you have seen those, you know this is pretty impressive! Unfortunately, GPT-4 could not yet master the practical component of the exam (no tasting in the multi-modality :-) ), but looking at the scores, it definitely aced the theoretical parts. So, this evening I signed up for the US$20 per month subscription and entered into an engaging discussion with GPT-4's. We discussed wine recommendations, tasting notes, details on wine geographies, wineries, grape varieties and even detailed tasting notes for specific wines and vintages. Sometimes a bit general, but overall really good. It even provided me with a detailed list of wine recommendations for an high-end diner with friends, very similar to what I had in mind myself. Not yet a replacement for my Wine Spectator subscription, but I foresee an excellent "sommelier" co-pilot for myself when selecting wine on the iPads that restaurants use these days to present their wine menu’s. Great work OpenAI! #gpt4 #NLP #winetasting #Wine #sommelier #maastrichtuniversity #um #DACS #AI See also: https://lnkd.in/eVnVRKju

AI is truly a double-edged sword that must be used carefully! Don't forget to RED TEAM YOUR AI before you put it in production. QA becomes crucial when using generative models since these models are designed to sample text from a distribution of possible responses. This is why AI models keep 'hallucinating' even after so much training and tuning because the inherent design of generative AI is to sample plausible text based on the provided prompt input. Models like GPT-4 cannot produce the same output for the same input, even with a greedy sampling strategy, meaning that randomness in the output will always be there to some extent. For applications that need consistent output, the risk of randomized output must be thoroughly assessed before releasing the model to the public. #ai #safety #ethics #regulation
