I had an amazing time at the 2024 Philly SHRM Symposium. The keynote speakers did a brilliant job expounding on all topics. Key points for me include the following: 1. Human Resources are the rocks/backbones of every organization and provide stability. 2. Valuing the unique contributions & perspectives of individuals enrich & expand organizational culture, fostering innovation & inclusivity. 3. Every idea needs a chance, a home, a time & place, a bodyguard and a crew. 4. Sharing personal experiences, stories, & struggles creates connection in the workplace. 5. You are in the driver seat of your career. #PSHRM2024

It was wonderful to have shared this moment with my teammates while at the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2024. It was a pleasure to meet and listen to Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP and his message regarding A Storm Coming for HR. Reflecting on Johnny’s speech it's clear that he sees a transformative storm approaching for HR professionals. The metaphorical cyclone represents several significant challenges: 1) AI and Work Transformation; 2) Job Displacement and Reskilling; and 3) Incivility and Inclusion Challenges: Rising incivility and the need for greater inclusion, equity, and diversity (IE&D) pose critical challenges. HR's role in fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace will be pivotal. The call to "run toward" these challenges signifies a proactive approach. It encourages HR professionals not to shy away from the impending changes but to confront them head-on with courage and leadership. Embracing these changes, will deepen HR's impact on organizations and society at large. Ultimately, the message challenges HR professionals to reflect on their readiness for these impending shifts. It calls for a collective effort to navigate these storms, emphasizing the importance of resilience, adaptability, and proactive leadership in preparing for the future of work. It’s good to remember that our careers are not linear and that we don’t have to be confined to traditional growth opportunities if those opportunities do not align with our interests or core values. What we do need to realise though is that we need to leverage our experience by being proactive, seeking mentorship and embracing change without pivoting so much that we have to start from scratch.
