World Refugee Day, designated by the United Nations, is recognized globally to celebrate the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict and persecution. At the Y, we welcome our local refugee and immigrant neighbors through Welcoming Week each year alongside hundreds of YMCAs and other organizations nationwide. This event celebrates immigrants' contributions to our community and brings together all residents in a spirit of unity. Stay tuned to learn more about Welcoming Week, taking place September 13-22. #WorldRefugeeDay #YForAll 🌎

“As much as a refugee longs for that new first sip of hot coffee, that new first shower in a real one, that new first time in a warm bed for the night, and many more new first times… These new first times can take many days, months, and even years to arrive, however, It´s important to celebrate those new first times that make a difference in the refugee life” We asked some refugee leaders, When you became a refugee what were the first times you remember the most? #togetherwithoutflags #WorldRefugeeDay #worldrefugeeday2024 #RefugeLeadership #refugeesupport #refugees

Organization Structure & Behavior: C-Suite advising On the impact individuals, groups, structures & processes have on behavior within organizations & society. Norms, Culture, and those Pesky Policies & Procedures!
🌍🚫 Let's Reflect: The Irony of Refugee Circumstances 🚫🌍 Asylum seekers and refugees are often running from the very conditions that their descendants create. It's a sobering thought that highlights the importance of treating those who seek asylum with the respect and dignity they deserve. Let's work towards creating a world where everyone can live in peace and security. It's truly incredible how history has a way of coming full circle. 🔄 Today, I want to delve into a thought-provoking topic, one that shines a light on the complex nature of asylum seekers and refugees. 🧬 It's funny in a perplexing way, isn't it? ⁉️ How the descendants of those once seeking refuge now find themselves creating refugee conditions and mistreating those in need of sanctuary. The irony is chilling. ❄️ Over the passage of time, generations bear the weight of their ancestors' actions. We'd hope for empathy and compassion to prevail, but sadly, that's not always the case. 🤝 As descendants find themselves in positions of power, they often manifest the very mentality their ancestors fought so desperately to escape. This perpetuates a cycle of suffering, deepening the wounds of those seeking safety. 🌪️ Today, it's crucial for us all to address this issue and foster understanding. Let's remember that every human being deserves the dignity and chance to rebuild their lives, regardless of their lineage or geographic origins. 🏳️🌈 Together, let's support policies that prioritize compassion and seek to break this cycle. Use these hashtags to learn more and engage in the conversation: #RefugeeAwareness #SeekingSanctuary #BreakingTheCycle #CompassionMatters #CreatingChange Let's strive to build a world where empathy conquers intolerance. 🌎❤️ #ReflectingOnRefugeeCircumstances #CompassionOverHistory #refugees #asylumseekers #humanrights https://lnkd.in/gny2CpB4

"[The resolution affirming the Global Compact on Refugees] calls upon the international community as a whole, including States and other relevant stakeholders, to implement the Global Compact on Refugees, through concrete actions, pledges and contributions." Here's how you, your organization or company can pledge to support refugees at the #GlobalRefugeeForum https://bit.ly/46Ey36l
At the first-ever Global Refugee Forum in 2019, states, civil society and so many others united to share ideas and pledge action. But four year later, there is still so much more that must be done. #RefugeeForum
