VDMA Transformation Dialogs on Robotics and Automation took place this week in the inspiring setting of the Maschinenraum in Berlin.   Many thanks to the VDMA Berlin office and the Robotics and Automation working group for the excellent organization, which led to a successful event. We were able to welcome high-ranking representatives from various federal ministries as well as from state and federal level and from leading associations.   It became clear that for a successful ramp-up of robotics and automation in Germany, we need a new dynamic and an open regulatory framework that promotes technological progress in the industry.   In a roundtable event, Patrick Schwarzkopf and I presented the "Robotics and Automation Strategy 2028". Jörg Rommelfanger shed light on the location conditions of the German robotics industry, while Dr. Horst Heinol emphasized the importance of Manufacturing-X for maintaining the innovation leadership of German SMEs. Thomas Hähn emphasized the need to adapt regulations to the needs of service robotics and pleaded for service robotics made in Europe. These multi-layered insights formed the basis for a stimulating discussion about the future of the industry.   This was followed by a panel discussion with representatives from industry (ABB Robotics, HAHN Automation Group), the skilled trades (Tischlerei Eigenstetter GmbH), Vera Demary from the German Economic Institute and Bernhard Kluttig, Head of the Industrial Policy Department at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.   There was a fundamental consensus that increased automation in industry, trade and services is not only possible, but also essential for the well-being of our society. Taking #NextWork to the next level   As one of our first #NextWork pilots in 2020, our plant in Bad Neustadt has undergone a transformative journey, from the first wave of digitalization, robotics and automation to the current challenges and opportunities around AI and sustainability.    Bad Neustadt is a leading example of the shift away from manual activities towards coordination, support and management tasks that can currently be observed in all production plants. Instead of settling for the status quo, we continue analyzing our roles and tasks and how these will change in the future. We want to take advantage of the opportunities presented by digital transformation and #structuralchange and are approaching the challenge from two perspectives: On the one hand, we are developing structured #workforcetransformation approaches with #NextWork and, on the other, we are providing the necessary resources to implement the changes in practice with the #FutureFund. Bad Neustadt has established itself as a leading example of how to embrace change and successfully prepare the people for the demands of the future.   I am happy to announce that the journey continues with new funding from the Siemens Future Fund, now focusing on the latest trends such as AI application and the associated skill set in manufacturing. Factory-X lighthouse project at the Hannover Messe Eleven use cases from industrial practice, especially in the application area of factory equipment suppliers and operators, are the focus of our brand new Factory-X research project, which was launched in February and is funded by the BMWK. Visit the Plattform Industrie 4.0 stand (Hall 8, D26) and find out more about this exciting joint project, in which 47 partners are designing and prototyping various business applications with common and/or complementary basic functionalities. The basic condition: Interoperability and openness. The aim is to present sample implementations for various business applications that show that tasks can be optimized in the application case and can serve as the basis for a general industry standard. Today we released our Year-end report January – December 2023. Financially, there isn't much exciting information in the report. Besides that we struggled with financing in the fourth quarter. Last year, we continued to prepare the company, the organization, and the technology for the transformation expected to occur in 2024. And, of course, we prepared our business opportunities for execution. The most interesting part in the report might then be in the section - Significant events after the end of the period, where we could report: - Signing distributor for the Netherlands - Signing distributor for Belgium - Initial prognosis from distributors on a sale of WEAI 15 robots - Entered a collaboration with Väderstad - Entered a collaboration with AutoAgri The expectation is that 2024 is the year we can take Ekobot into the next phase of industrial and commercial development. The year in which we transform a strong interest from customers into business opportunities, incoming orders, and a basis for an industrial and commercial expansion.
