Building your personal brand is essential for Design professionals. Content Designer @ LinkedIn

Amongst other things, Lauren Camera-Murray shared some valuable nuggets on how to brand yourself as a content designer. Here are 3 key takeaways: 💡 Building your personal brand is super important today. Leaders in your organization should know who you are. Building relationships with others across your organization is key for making this happen. 💡 Don't overidentify with your specialization as a content designer. Think in broad strokes. Content designers are designers and creators. We're helping build digital experiences. Blurring these lines helps us step into new avenues beyond traditional UI design, such as conversation design. 💡 You're inevitably going to run into gatekeeping as you do your work. One way to tackle that resistance is to tell your stories of successful collaboration to audiences that matter. Once people know about the impact you made on a project as a content designer, their walls might come down.

#LinkedInDesign is having a blast a #Config2024! 🤩 What new features are you excited about?

#Config2024 ! The energy & creativity in the air are absolutely contagious. ✨ As someone that works with a team normally behind the scenes at events, it's SUCH a different experience enjoying time as an attendee. Their approach to fully demo-ing live content on stage was truly engaging. It’s such an authentic approach that was so fun to see come to life on stage. I'm especially excited about the launch of Figma Slides! Did you know 3.5M slide decks were created in Figma last year? This new feature allows teams to create dynamic presentations directly in Figma, which is a game-changer for our storytelling and presentation capabilities for product teams and beyond. I'm excited to take this new feature back to the team as we reimagine the potential of storytelling through this tool. As someone who loves organization and productivity, the new feature to automatically rename layers with AI is a dream come true. One of my pet peeves is unlabeled layers. With just a click, you can contextually rename and organize all your layers - gasp! So far the best part, however, is meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. #LinkedInDesign #LinkedInLife #LinkedInAtConfig

During LinkedIn's Design Show and Tell, Black By Design UX Researchers Daniel Kelley, Khalida Nicole Sebree and Adetutu Adekoya shared a presentation highlighting the Black women pioneering the path forward in technology and AI. Through their research, we realize the importance in understanding our social structures and inherent biases and consider how that impacts the development of AI tools and their effects on communities of color. As technology creators, we must address biases in AI and social structures as we embrace an AI-driven future. #BBD #BlackByDesign #LinkedInDesign #UXR #UXResearch

The rapid pace of technological advancement often tempts us to embrace the “move fast and break things” mentality - We must remember that our work carries immense responsibility! Thank you for the reminder and sharing your thoughts, Stephanie Lucas! 💡   #LinkedInDesign #Product #Trust #Safety #Design

Sometimes I worry that the story of trust and safety in the software design industry has faded from the landscape, having swept away by a new wave of “Move fast and break things.” Then I realize that within just the past 6 months, no less than 4 “cautionary tale” books have been published and became bestsellers. “Unmasking AI” by Dr. Joy Buolamwini “Extremely Hardcore” by Zöe Schaffer “Your Face Belongs To Us” by Kashmir Hill and, although it’s largely from an industry gossip standpoint, “Burn Book” by Kara Swisher Just as it’s healthy to take a few days of vacation now and then, it’s equally important to stay smart and aware of this profoundly powerful “magic” we all work with - it’s not, in fact, magic; it’s business with all the associated incentives. Grab an audiobook, listen to a podcast, and don’t allow the lessons of the past to fade into vague memory.

No matter how seasoned we are, there’s always more to explore and learn. The design landscape is a dynamic canvas, and staying curious is our superpower. Excellent reflections, Kefang Ning! 👏 #LinkedInDesign #GrowthMindset #Design

Recently, I had the privilege of participating in a Figma training session initiated by our design leadership team. Beyond mastering new techniques, the session prompted a series of reflections that have been swirling in my mind post-training: - Embrace Continuous Learning: Despite thinking I was up-to-date with the latest techniques, this training revealed just how much more there is to learn. So don't stop learning from various resources. - Voice Your Questions: Throughout the training, I was struck by the shared moments of curiosity. Apparently if you're puzzled about something, chances are, someone else is too. Asking questions aloud and sharing solutions not only clears your doubts but also fosters a learning environment for the whole team. - Leverage Templates: Observing your habits and creating templates for repetitive tasks can drastically boost your efficiency. Whether it's a project setup, a brainstorming session, or a review process, having these templates at hand can speed up your workflow and ensure consistency across your designs. #linkedindesign #linkedinlife #productdesign #uxdesign
