LATEST NEWS

July 14: RHP Brent Honeywell claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh and activated to start Sunday; RHP optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City; RHP (right rotator cuff strain) transferred to the 60-day IL
The Dodgers signed and activated Honeywell to start their bullpen game in the final game before the All-Star break. Earlier this season, he appeared in two games (both in relief) with the Pirates, allowing one run in 3 1/3 innings. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander has pitched 60 innings in 45 games (two previous starts) in his MLB career with the Rays, Padres, White Sox and Pirates since 2021. He’s 2-4 with a 4.95 ERA and has 50 strikeouts with a high number of walks (28).

“It’s desperate times, absolutely," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on the signing of Honeywell prior to Sunday’s game. "If you’re talking about the last game before the All-Star break in a day game on the road, it’s desperate times. I don’t think there’s any other way to say it.”

“He’s a neutral pitcher with a good changeup in there,” Roberts said of Honeywell, noting that he arrived at the team hotel in nearby Birmingham at about midnight Saturday. “I figured the best way to assimilate him is to start him. He’s got 40-50 pitches, something like that.”

Vanasco was optioned after allowing three runs on three hits without recording an out on Saturday. Yamamoto, who was on the 15-day IL, was transferred to the 60-day IL, so he won't be eligible to return until at least August 16. Read more >>

INJURY UPDATES

RHP/DH (elbow surgery)
Expected return:
2025 (as a pitcher)
Ohtani has been throwing ever since the team came back from Seoul, South Korea, in late March. On May 27, Ohtani said he has progressed to throwing from 60 feet out. He added that those throws have reached 80 mph in his last couple sessions. He is still not expected to see game action this season. (Last updated: May 28)

10-day/15-day injured list

SS (left hand fracture)
Expected return: August
Betts sustained the fracture on a hit-by-pitch when batting against Royals reliever Dan Altavilla on June 16. The injury won't require surgery, but he was expected to miss six to eight weeks as the bones healed.

“I talked to Mookie this morning,” manager Dave Roberts said July 14, “and he’s taking shallow, short ground balls. He was excited about that. So, that’s a good thing.” (Last updated: July 14)

RHP (lower back tightness)
Expected return:
July 21 or July 22
Glasnow was placed on the injured list for the first time this season with lower back tightness, retroactive to July 6. The right-hander’s back tightened up while playing catch on July 7, according to manager Dave Roberts. With the All-Star break coming up, the Dodgers don’t expect Glasnow to miss more than just one start. Glasnow has 109 innings this season, putting him just 11 shy of matching his career high in a single season. (Last updated: July 9)

OF (left knee bone bruise)
Expected return:
After the All-Star break
Heyward underwent an MRI on his left knee on July 5, which revealed a bone bruise on his left knee. That was good news for the outfielder and the Dodgers, as it means he’s not expected to miss significant time, as was initially feared. (Last updated: July 5)

RHP (right hip inflammation)
Expected return:
TBD
Buehler was hit by a comebacker during his start against the Rockies on June 18, which caused some inflammation and soreness. Outside of the injury, the stint on the injured list could allow the right-hander to have a mental and physical reset as he works his way back into form. (Last updated: June 19)

RHP (right intercostal strain)
Expected return: Possibly July
Grove missed a month and a half last season with a similar injury, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team viewed this as a "shorter-term" issue. Grove has primarily worked in long relief for L.A. this season and twice served as an opener. (Last updated: June 16)

60-day IL

LHP (left shoulder surgery)
Expected return: Late July
Kershaw pitched three hitless innings with five strikeouts on July 13 for Triple-A Oklahoma City, and then threw 12 pitches in the bullpen. He had thrown a two-inning simulated game at Dodger Stadium on July 7.

“Clayton was good,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said July 14. “I talked with him last night, and he felt really excited about it. He’ll pitch next Friday for OKC, and the plan is to get through four innings and then maybe pitch [more] up in the 'pen. So, [it's] really encouraging. He said he felt great coming out of it.”

Kershaw could return to the rotation within two weeks, and Roberts did not rule out activating him soon after Friday’s rehab outing. (Last updated: July 14)

RHP (right triceps tightness)
Expected return: Mid-August
“Yamamoto’s thrown twice this past week,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on July 12. Roberts added that Yamamoto has played catch out to 60 feet twice, and played catch on July 13.

Yamamoto first reported issues following a career-high 106-pitch start against the Yankees on June 7. The Dodgers gave him two extra days off in the hopes that would resolve things, but he felt something again while facing the Royals on June 15 and ended up exiting after just two innings. An MRI revealed no tear.

Yamamoto was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 14, in what Roberts said was a matter of "paperwork," as the club still expects him to return in mid-August. Read more > (Last updated: July 14)

RHP (right flexor tendon surgery; esophagus)
Expected return: 2025
May underwent surgery to repair his esophagus and stomach on July 10 after reporting pain in those areas after dinner that day.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on July 14 that he “was shocked” by the news, noting May was in Arizona.

“Soreness of the throat and the stomach, and goes to the ER and gets surgery.” said Roberts. “He gets surgery, and he’s done for the year. Obviously, him coming back, if everything was great, was still a longer shot. But how his season ended is very unfortunate. I’m just glad he’s OK.”

May underwent right elbow surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles to repair his flexor tendon July 18, 2023. It was his second major elbow surgery in the past three seasons, and the Dodgers placed him on the 60-day injured list to begin the 2024 season. Read more > (Last updated: July 14)

RHP (right posterior shoulder)
Expected return: After the All-Star break
"Joe Kelly will be back with us after the [All-Star] break,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on July 12.

Kelly made his first rehab appearance for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on July 2, and he has progressed well over the last 10 days. The veteran reliever is close to seeing his first MLB game action since May 5. (Last updated: July 12)

RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: Possibly late July
"Graterol's making his way,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on July 12. “We can see him end of July as a possibility -- which is encouraging. He’ll probably go out to a [Minor League] affiliate after the [All-Star] break. Then you take three or four [outings], and we should see him at that point.”

Graterol has not pitched since last October’s NLDS against the D-backs; his shoulder issue developed prior to Spring Training. (Last updated: July 12)

3B (right oblique strain)
Expected return: August at the earliest
Muncy’s oblique injury hasn’t progressed nearly as quickly as the Dodgers had hoped. The third baseman had been taking swings off a tee but has since stopped, and he will need a lengthy rehab assignment when he does resume baseball activities. Muncy got additional scans on his oblique, manager Dave Roberts shared on July 6, but there were no new developments. Still, Muncy will be sidelined for at least another month. (Last updated: July 6)

RHP (calf strain)
Expected return: Possibly the first half
Brasier pulled his right calf muscle while doing some sprinting as part of his regular warmups before the Dodgers' game against the D-backs on April 29 and was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 28.

An MRI on April 30 revealed the strain was mild. Manager Dave Roberts said on May 31 that Brasier was playing catch, but remains "a ways out" from returning. Brasier was moved to the 60-day IL on June 13. (Last updated: June 13)

RHP (right plantar fasciitis)
Expected return:
TBD
Brogdon, who was acquired from the Phillies in April, went on the injured list for the first time this season. The right-hander gave up a pair of solo home runs in his one appearance with the Dodgers. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 19. (Last updated: May 19)

RHP (right forearm inflammation)
Expected return:
2025
Sheehan suffered an injury in his first bullpen session of the spring and never got into Cactus League action. The right-hander had started throwing to hitters for the first time, but on May 16 the Dodgers announced that he had undergone successful surgery on his right elbow that would end his 2024 season. (Last updated: May 16)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: 2024
Gonsolin had Tommy John surgery on Sept. 1, performed by team doctor Neal ElAttrache. He was placed on the injured list Aug. 19 with what was diagnosed as right forearm inflammation. Gonsolin also was placed on the IL late in the 2022 season with a right forearm strain. He started the '23 campaign on the IL with a left ankle sprain and was 8-5 with a 4.98 ERA in 20 starts.

Gonsolin had been dealing with arm soreness for an extended period before he went on the IL. The Dodgers placed Gonsolin on the 60-day injured list on Feb. 9. (Last updated: Feb. 9)
