The first Black family on the block: How an Ypsilanti street became Minnie Hughes Drive

YPSILANTI, MI - Minnie Hughes was a giver, her family says.

Her name is well known in the Ypsilanti neighborhood at Michigan Avenue and South Hamilton Street near downtown. Described as a mother to her neighbors, a mentor to youth and a leader in her church, the longtime Ypsilanti resident died Feb. 24 at 89 years old.
