This Italian Cinderella tale, originally entitled La gatta Cenerentola (The Cat Cinderella), is by Giambattista Basile, from his collection of 50 tales, Lo Cunti de li Cunto (1634-36); the heroine, Zezolla, is tricked by her governess into becoming her stepmother, thankfully help arrives in the form of the Fairies of Sardinia and she is able to attend the feast; also includes the close variant L’Orza (The She-Bear)
