Pictures hold something truly special—a speck of time that once was and shall never be again. They’re the closest thing we have to a time machine, allowing us to glimpse through a window of film and into the past.

They claimed images make the past seem more accessible, giving concrete shape to a world that sometimes seems intangible. Not to mention the immediacy of the image, which often conveys information more quickly than a primary document written in an unfamiliar, or even a foreign, language. Good old Leon and Levy where would I be without them. There is a Police Officer standing on the traffic island in the middle of the photograph, he is probably from POW. On the left is a hoarding surrounding the building site for what was then known as the New Government Offices and is now The Treasury; work was started in 1899 and completed in 1915 so I may be on the cusp here.
