The Christ the Redeemer Statue (or Cristo Redentor in Portuguese) is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The statue is 40 meter tall and sits on the 700 meter tall Corcovado Mountain. At the base of the statue is a small chapel (only fits 150 people). Heiter da Silva Costa was the architect of the project who came up with the original idea of the statue and Paul Landowski helped him create the statue. The statue was inaugurated on October 12, 1931 by the Brazilian President, Getulio Vergas.
