BARITUS Catholic Illustration on Instagram: "Yesterday I posted a snapshot of my work in progress on a new Saint illustration. The majority of you were able to guess the figure, Saint Florian! However the responses to that question gave me some insight into some changes that I thought would be stronger in the final work. The biggest change was the fact that previously I sketched St. Florian holding a spear, turned downwards to symbolize his refusal to execute Chrsitians during the Diocletian persecutions. This was confusing, as St. Longinus is the Saint typically depicted holding a spear, so I thought better of that decision and switched to a sheathed Roman sword. The sheath of course conveying the same idea that he refused to draw his weapon against his Christian brothers and sisters.
