At the recent Coffs Waste Conference, EPOC Enviro's Chief Technical Officer, David Burns, participated in a workshop about the prevalence and persistence of #PFAS in everyday products and the environment. Dave disclosed that once PFAS enters the waste network, it is unintentionally circulated back into the environment through the use of biosolids for compost and fertiliser. He also described how landfill sites have the potential to become the new front line to prevent dispersion of PFAS risk, as they are the optimal locations to remove PFAS and to break the ongoing cycle of contamination. We love getting amongst it in the great outdoors, but did you know that outdoor garments, such as your waterproof jacket, may contain #PFAS? A recent study by Ethical Consumer found PFAS in more than 80 per cent of outdoor clothing products made by 27 different companies. We applaud the innovative work of those manufacturers who have phased out their PFAS use, as well as those who are minimising their use and planning a PFAS phase out in the near future. Our team could not have imagined this milestone after winning the contract and then installing the worlds very first #SAFF® system at Oakey back 2019.
