Rail is a vital piece of the transport puzzle for any liveable city. It’s sustainable and efficient. It reduces traffic congestion. It promotes social inclusion by providing accessible transport. In short, rail ticks a lot of boxes. As building services engineers with decades of experience in rail, we approach station design as building designers first. That means that we imagine a station that's more than just a stop on your journey—it's a vibrant destination where people connect, relax and thrive. In our latest article 👇, ‘It’s people who make a station a destination’, Director Ashley Merrett explores how thoughtful design and innovative engineering are turning stations into essential community spaces. Stay tuned in the coming days as we take you beyond the tracks into the heart of the rail sector. 🚆 #MakingSpacesWork Tetra Tech High Performance Buildings Group | Cosentini Associates | Glumac | Hoare Lea

As the neighbourhood in Adelaide’s north continued to grow, the City of Tea Tree Gully recognised the rising need for more recreation and community spaces. This led to the expansion project for Harpers Field Community & Sporting Facilities. Along with new clubrooms for the cricket and football clubs, the expansion also includes a community hall with meeting rooms and activity spaces, a gym, a canteen and stadium seating. To keep the facility open during construction, #NDY designed the building services to avoid disrupting day-to-day activities. From electrical solutions to sustainability-focused designs, new services blended with existing structures to meet current demand and lay the foundation for future growth. The NDY Charitable Trust recently organised an international food day to support the Ololo Foundation’s school meals program for St. John’s School in Africa. #NDY offices worldwide joined in, with our people sharing dishes at morning tea or lunch. The popular event raised funds and also fostered a sense of community through a lively cultural exchange. Founded by Josiah Munyutu in 2002, St. John’s School is located in Kibera, Kenya. Africa’s largest slum, Kibera is roughly the size of New York’s Central Park and home to nearly 1 million people. The school, initially set up to help orphans, street children and the impoverished, now educates over 400 students. Kibera's residents face severe poverty, with many earning less than $1 a day. This leads to high unemployment and children often going to school hungry. To address this, St. John’s School partnered with Ololo Lodge and Farm to create a feeding program. Using low-cost ingredients from the 'Farm to Plate' initiative, each meal costs around 10 Kenyan Shillings (10 cents AUD). The program ensures every student receives a meal, supporting their education and wellbeing. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making a difference, with our event raising $2,500 (providing over 25,000 meals) for the students at St John’s School.
