C. difficile Infection (CDI) is a highly contagious bacterial infection that can lead to life-threatening complications and is responsible for approximately 29,000 deaths per year in the U.S., according to the CDC. Recurrent CDI (rCDI) represents a significant unmet need and is a burden to the healthcare system, with a recurrence rate of 45–65% in patients who have had more than two episodes of C. diff. At Nestlé Health Science, we are committed to raising awareness of C. diff and rCDI, and to providing patients with innovative treatment options to help reduce the impact of this debilitating disease. Today marks a milestone for the rCDI patient and caregiver community as we celebrate one year since the first patient was commercially treated with our orally administered microbiome therapeutic following its FDA approval last year. Our history, scientific process, and commitment to serving patients holistically has laid the groundwork for our success in developing complementary therapies across consumer products, medical nutrition, and pharmaceuticals.
