‘Sony Research Award Program’ Now Accepting Applications to Enhance Emerging and Innovative Technological Development Sony Group Corporation announced a call for research proposals for the 2024 Sony Research Award Program.  The Sony Research Award Program is an open innovation initiative for universities and research institutions such as government research and nonprofit organizations in the U.S., Canada, Europe*1 and India. It provides sponsored research funding for projects on emerging and innovative technologies in collaboration with Sony Group’s own research groups. This year, the program will expand its research themes to include AI and content creation technology. In a joint research project with FullDepth Co., Ltd. and Hokkaido University, the research team of Shoji Ichiki et al. of the Sony Group succeeded in creating a seagrass bed recognition map by using the underwater visual sensing technology developed by the Sony Group, with the aim of quantifying the amount of CO2 absorbed by the blue carbon ecosystem. We gave a poster exhibit to present the research results at WSC2024 & ISBW15 (2024 World Seagrass Conference & 15th International Seagrass Biology Workshop), an international top conference on seagrass ecosystems held from June 17 through 21. Success in multi-point underwater electromagnetic wave communication applicable for real-time sensing of the marine environment! The research team of the Exploratory Deployment Group of Sony Group Corporation is working to develop a new underwater wireless communication system that uses electromagnetic waves.
