Adẹ̀kọ́ & Co is an independent, multi-disciplinary design studio that specialises in storytelling, often through space and materiality, founded and led by Tolu Adeko, Creative Director. Stories are powerful, and strong brands are built around them. We make every brand experience unique and successful by telling its own memorable story by exploring palettes of materials, colours, and moods. Everything—from form to finish—is chosen for a reason, and all of it comes back to the story. Starting with a simple conversation, we take the time to understand our clients’ concepts, and we work collaboratively to create designs that fit with them seamlessly. The studio’s key areas of focus are interior design and architecture, art direction, identity, and communication. 🚀 Having worked in hospitality design for the past 17 years, I’ve always been passionate about the concept narratives and the rich stories of luxury hoteliers and restaurants. It's exhilarating to collaborate with such iconic brands, crafting spaces that echo their essence. However, as the project progresses, practical aspects like operations, budgets, and returns inevitably take precedence. Consequently, a part of the original vision often gets diluted through value engineering, leaving less of the core concept materialised. ✨ So, when presented with a brief to design a room with no limitations except that it must be WOW, it felt like a dream come true. The freedom to fully express our creativity was invigorating. Along with my team at Adeko & Co, our first step was to dive into the rich textile archive of our sponsor, Zimmer + Rohde. 🏛️ Zimmer + Rohde, a company founded in 1899 by Ernst Rohde and Max Marx, is renowned for its opulent floral patterns and decorated fabrics. Their early fabric choices were influenced by the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco, embracing geometric shapes and industrial techniques. This era marked a shift from elaborate decorative elements to the clean lines and geometric shapes of Art Deco. Inspired by the luxurious journey of the Orient Express, Rohde and Marx traded textiles in fabric capitals such as London, Paris, and Constantinople, forging strong links with artisans around the world. ✈️ Our studio explored early 20th-century interior design and textiles through the lens of luxury travel, capturing the essence of opulence and meticulous craftsmanship. In collaboration with Zimmer + Rohde, we immersed ourselves in their exquisite textiles to create our latest masterpiece: the "Zimmer + Rohde Bedroom Suite by Tolù Adẹ̀kọ́." Our vision was to craft a space embodying timeless elegance and luxury, seamlessly blending historic grandeur with contemporary sophistication. Inspired by the opulence of the Orient Express, our design reflects a journey through a world of rich textures and refined aesthetics. We meticulously curated every element to create a sanctuary of tranquillity and indulgence. From bespoke finishes to artisan craftsmanship, each detail enhances the overall ambience, providing a luxurious retreat with 20th-century flare. The suite harmoniously combines classic and contemporary design elements, resulting in a space that is both visually stunning and deeply comforting. Every aspect, from the carefully selected materials to the lighting design, contributes to a serene and opulent atmosphere. We collaborated with exceptional craftsmen, artisans, and artists to bring this bedroom suite to life.
