About us
The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) supports excellence in British craftsmanship by awarding funding to talented and aspiring makers wishing to further their education and training. We define craft broadly and are excited to support contemporary innovation as well as traditional craft skills. Over the last 30 years QEST has awarded £5million to 600 individuals working in 130 different disciplines. From luthiery to printmaking and thatching to enamelling, we embrace craft in all its forms and are proud to contribute towards its evolving tradition. QEST funding has provided an essential turning point for many of our alumni, and we continue to support them throughout their career, offering opportunities for exhibitions, collaborations and commissions through our extensive craft network. QEST was founded by the Royal Warrant Holders Association in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Association and the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. In 2017 HRH The Prince of Wales became our Patron, with Vice-Patrons the Earl of Snowdon and the Marquess of Salisbury.

We're partnering with Sheffield Museums to host a Crafty Careers Fair at the Kelham Island Museum on Thursday 11 July! It's aimed at young people in the area who are starting to think about their career, studying or keen to try something new. The event will include hands-on activities, demonstrations, mini workshops and talks, targeted at young people aged 14-25. It starts at 4.30pm and tickets are free. QEST is heading to the National Festival of Making in Blackburn this coming weekend. The National Festival of Making is a unique celebration of UK making, from the kitchen table to the factory floor. It's our second time taking part in the event and you can find us in the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery where we'll be hosting drop-in craft workshops and talking about our Blackburn Craft&Making Club with the National Saturday Club. The QEST team will be joined by Emerging Maker Annahieta oskooi for a family friendly introduction to signwriting and gilding, inspired by the museum's Egyptian artefacts. We're pleased to introduce our first two makers who will be exhibiting with QEST at the brand new Craft Festival Wales in September. Verity Pulford (glass) and Helen Reader (saddlery) will be joining us on our stand at Cardigan Castle from 6-8 September, selling their pieces and demonstrating their craft. QEST is proud to be a partner for the event which will see more than 80 makers come together to showcase their craft, host workshops, activities and inspire others to consider a career in craft. QEST Scholars are working with Sanderson Design Group plc. brand Zoffany to give fabrics a second life. Our makers have been invited to repurpose the materials featured in Zoffany's room at WOW!House to create their own contemporary masterpiece. The chosen Scholars' work will be showcased at an exhibition at Sanderson's new home, Voysey House, in September. Designed by Benedict Foley, the Entrance Hall at WOW!House is a reimagining of Zoffany's Suffolk Damasks, inspired by Visconti's Il Gattopardo. Alumni had the opportunity to see the fabrics at a function at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour last week. We're looking forward to seeing what they create. Images: James Mason

QEST is delighted to announce a new collaboration with Haddon Hall - a Grade I listed medieval building with 900 years of history. The first in a series of collaborations between the two organisations will be an exhibition of contemporary works which resonate with the history and architecture of the Hall and surrounding grounds. The exhibition, 'Showcase 1' will feature work by QEST Alumni. It will open to the public on Tuesday 25 June and remain on display until the end of September.
