Fighting to make the world less boring

About us

We live to find ways to make the world a bit more difficult. To bring chaos into our over-sanitised lives. To create adventures where you don't know what will happen next or if you'll even make it to the end. We're The Adventurists and we're fighting to make the world less boring. Our events include the Mongol Derby (the world’s longest horse race), the Icarus Trophy (a long distance paramotor flying race), and the Rickshaw Run (driving tuk tuks across India). We're also trying to save a bit of the world - since 2004 our teams have raised over £7 million pounds for charity.

We’re looking for a marketing legend who can switch their enormous brain between worlds with a brief raise of a single eyebrow and a sip of Earl Grey. On any given day this person will: - Craft an advert about the benefits of riding a totally unsuitable 50cc monkey bike across the Andes mountains and into the Amazon jungle. And why it’s a good thing the bike will definitely break down above the cloud line with nothing but angry llamas for miles in every direction.  - Write a story about that time a British team driving a taxi on the Mongol Rally got stranded in no man's land between Kazakhstan and Russia for six days and established the Autocratic Republic of Taxistan (complete with daily renditions of God Save the Queen). - Investigate how and why we’re suddenly seeing a bunch of people sign up from Japan and Brazil. Then make a plan to recruit their friends, colleagues, neighbours and second cousins. - Convince the world’s most adventurous equestrians that extensive chafing of the inner thigh area is a worthwhile price to pay for conquering the world’s longest and toughest horse races. - Develop an emotional support programme for all the people who’ll be devastated by missing out on one of the limited places on our new adventure through Bhutan riding first edition electric Venturo motorbikes. The person in this role will be leading the charge on marketing for The Adventurists, The Equestrianists and Venturo Adventure Machines. Our products range from rickshaw adventures across India to horse races in Mongolia and Argentina. And we’re building the next generation of miniature electric adventure machines. Our demographic is connected only via a shared itch to wobble off the edge of the map and seek out a healthy dollop of chaos to combat the increasingly sanitised world of smartphone travel. Their ages range from 18 to 78 and they come from more than 50 countries. Our price range starts at £14 for a Mongol Rally mug and tops out at $17,000 per person for a spot on a horse race.  The impact our adventures have on people isn’t the usual brochure level guff… Sometimes people cry at the finish line. They’re mostly happy tears, with one or two ‘thank-the gods-of-adventure-that’s-finally-over’ full-on blubs. Customers who meet on the road have ended up getting married. Others quit their jobs after realising they can’t go back to their old life after experiencing the clarity of being lost and stuck in the middle of nowhere. Our teams have raised millions of pounds for charity. They’re going to raise millions more. Soon they’ll be pioneering new routes using electric rickshaws and monkey bikes. They’ll help us take a small but dignified protest poo on the current boundaries of EV adventuring as we thunder, silently, into a new dawn of electrified overland stupidity. If you know someone who has that ‘Head of Marketing for a ludicrously ambitious adventure empire’ look about them, please send them our way.

    Marketing Director at The Adventurists

We spend cash in tugriks on the Mongolian steppe. We depreciate the world's largest fleet of privately owned tuk tuks and monkey bikes. We operate several subsidiary companies in countries with spectacularly complex tax and accounting regulations. Our office petty cash tin once had 11 different currencies in it. And an anonymous, slightly grubby IOU note for fifty quid. Amount remains outstanding. Our current products range in price from £600 to $17,000. We run events in 10 countries and plan to double that over the next few years. We're moving into electric vehicle manufacturing in multiple locations. We've got a brand new CEO John Grigg. Our founder Tom Morgan thinks a cluster balloon race with giant helium balloons strapped to a camp chair is a sound financial decision. The other members of the board do not. And we're about to completely redesign our entire financial ecosystem from the biscuit budget to the long term strategy. We're not looking for a Financial Controller. We're looking for the Financial Controller. Any help you can give us finding this person much appreciated. ------------------------------ Reporting to the CEO this role is responsible for all day-to-day financial management within The Adventurists, The Equestrianists and Venturo Adventure Machines. We're recruiting a Financial Controller to help us manage and rapidly expand our trio of companies... WE’RE THE ADVENTURISTS …and we’re fighting to make the world less boring. Our planet used to slap us about the face-cheeks with iron fists of adventure every day. Maps had edges to walk off. Whole continents lay undiscovered. We live to find ways to make the world a bit more difficult. To bring chaos into our over-sanitised lives. To create adventures where you don’t know what will happen tomorrow or if you’ll even make it. In the spirit of unbridled adventure, we’ve accelerated to a gallop with the launch of ‘The Equestrianists’ – not just any horse racing series, but the globe-trotting, heart-pounding, ultimate endurance showdown on hooves. And not content to stop there, we’ve also unleashed ‘Venturo Adventure Machines’ – our audacious leap into crafting the ultimate conduits of thrill that you can’t just buy – you have to earn them through adventure.   THE ROLE Reporting to the CEO this role is responsible for all accounting functions within The Adventurists, The Equestrianists and Venturo Adventure Machines. All aspects of the day-to-day financial management of the business are overseen by the Financial Controller. The right person will contribute to the financial strategic direction of the business as well as being a vital voice in revamping the consistent framework that we will work within. Management accounts and reports are a key element of this role, and we’re looking for someone with the attention to detail to build these reports, the analytical nous to make recommendations and the communications skills to present those to the Board. A while back we posted an ad for a new Managing Director to do important stuff like "rescue thousands more people from soul crushing itinerary-prisons by showing them the way of adventuring mayhem". We're most pleased to announce double Rickshaw Run participant John Grigg as our new Chief. We changed the plan a bit too... He's not just going to expand The Adventurists's tentacles of chaos. John is now CEO of all three of our companies including The Equestrianists and Venturo Adventure Machines.

I make things happen. Fighting to make the world less boring.

LinkedIn has its fair share of hyperbole but get ready for some genuine excitement…   I am bloody-well over the moon to announce my new position as CEO for The Adventurists, The Equestrianists and Venturo Adventure Machines.    Many have inevitably heard me wax lyrical about my #RickshawRun and my admiration for the company that created it. I've loved The Adventurists from afar for more than a decade so I'm thrilled to be helping them make the world less boring and create odysseys of chaos and adventure for more and more people around the world.   The Equestrianists is the World's greatest horse racing series with annual events in Mongolia and Argentina (in fact the #GauchoDerby starts today!). The focus on horse welfare is incredible, and the races are jaw-droppingly exciting. We'll be working to bring more amazing races in more spectacular destinations in the coming years.   Venturo makes the coolest adventure machines on the planet. You might want one... but you can't just buy one. You have to earn your Venturo through adventure. Check out venturo.bike.   It's important I thank some folks who helped me win this wonderful opportunity. Alex Wilson, Jeremy Hodges, Edward Scott, Matt Pensinger, Lauryn McCarthy and Sarah Dale all gave me a bend of their ear along the way. Rob Prince and Finbar O'Sullivan chipped in valuable thoughts as expert rickshaw pilots and adventure veterans. Darrell Wilkins lent me his brain on multiple occasions. Charlotte Green provided constant advice and support in all aspects of this (and life in general!) and a special thanks to Dr Tom Lever who has been the most stalwart friend and advisor even through challenging times. Thanks everyone! And to Tom Morgan, Jenny Hunter, Dan Wedgwood and Simon Walker - thanks for trusting me with the keys to this incredible wonder machine!
