Last month we went across the country to celebrate the talent and craft of Care Chefs as they compete in the regional heats of the National Association Of Care Catering (NACC) Care Chef of the Year 2024 competition. This time last week we were at The City of Glasgow College unearthing the next generation of young Scottish culinary talent in the first Knorr Professional Scottish Student Chef of the Year Competition. Challenged to prepare a two-course menu inspired by 'Modernised Comfort Food' and 'Irresistible Vegetables', we were amazed by the pure talent and creativity displayed by the finalists. A massive congratulations go to Jacintha Henderson from The City of Glasgow College as they take the crown with a main of Pan Roasted Chicken Breast, Stuffed Wing, Birria Tacos, Mole Elote Corn Ribs, Puree and Salsa Coriander finished with a lime dressing, and a Celeriac dessert - wowing the judges with their creative response to the brief! Big well done to our runner-ups Aimee Poland from Ayrshire College and Alannah Harrison from West College Scotland (Clydebank) - you did your colleges and mentors proud. Congratulations also go to Yingying Tang from Ayrshire College for winning Assistant Chef with their impressive display of skills and attention to detail.
