Nation's Largest Federal Employee Union Congratulates Raphael Warnock on Historic Win

WASHINGTON

The American Federation of Government Employees congratulates U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock for winning Georgia's runoff election Tuesday and making history as the first Black person from the state ever elected to a full six-year term in the Senate.

"Raphael Warnock's victory solidifies Democratic control of the U.S. Senate and caps a midterm election that will go down in history as one of the strongest mid-term performances of any incumbent party in decades," AFGE National President Everett Kelley said.

"Senator Warnock's victory is due in no small part to the many active and retired members of AFGE who volunteered their time to help get out the vote on both Election Day and in the Georgia runoff," Kelley said.

AFGE deployed 11 staff for the runoff election, sent out more than 7,000 mailers, initiated thousands of phone calls and text messages, and ran a statewide get out the vote digital ad that targeted nearly 7,000 of our members in the state.

"I am so proud of the AFGE activists and leaders in Georgia who worked hard to get out the vote and make this historic victory possible," AFGE District 5 National Vice President David Mollett said.

Kelley added, "Warnock joins more than 235 AFGE-endorsed candidates in both the House and Senate who won their contests - ensuring that pro-worker and pro-union policies will continue to remain in the forefront of our democratic process and legislative efforts in the next congressional session."

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union proudly representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and overseas. Workers in virtually all functions of government at every federal agency depend upon AFGE for legal representation, legislative advocacy, technical expertise and informational services.
