What do you do if your career in Fleet Operations lacks direction without set goals?

En el proceso de crecimiento profesional dentro de las operaciones de flota debemos establecer nuestro plan de carrera y analizar si nuestras acciones nos están acercando o alejando de la ruta trazada, procurando tomar acción en base a nuestros recursos disponibles que hemos adquirido en nuestra formación, de las experiencias laborales previas o de la interacción con nuestro entorno obteniendo así un FODA (Fortalezas, Oportunidades, Debilidades y Amenazas) personal y como este encaja en las políticas establecidas con la Gestión integral de las operaciones de flota para que con ello podamos establecer nuestra estrategia a desplegar, detallando que objetivos y la dirección a seguir.

El reconocer que en las Operaciones de Flota existen niveles jerárquicos creados para sostener a las organizaciones, tales como el nivel Estratégico, Táctico y Operativo, nos permite establecer nuestras propias metas en función de hacia donde queremos crecer, es decir que como Gestor de Flota estando en el nivel operativo debemos manejar check list vehicular, planes de mantenimiento, capacitación operadores, si me encuentro en el nivel Táctico como Jefatura de Flota o Transporte, debo tener la capacidad traducir el objetivo del Nivel Estratégico en acciones concretas a desplegar por el nivel Operativo, para lo cual será esencial aprende de ERP, Eficiencia de costos, TCO, CPK, ciclo de vida de activos entre otros.

Find the right people with the skills you do not have. Not proficient in social media? Partner up with someone that can benefit from working with you and also finds it exciting, to further deepen your customer reach and find new exciting leads. Need to step away from day to day assignments? Pick someone from your driver pool, they know the work, give them the opportunity for growth. They will give back to you the same amount of trust you put in them. Trust your team, trust their skills, sometimes the most skilled person isn't the right person to surround yourself with. Someone with less experience may have more drive and desire to succeed than the the person with 10+ years experience.

Recruit people that have an interest in luxury services, and customer services. Having a team of diverse skillsets, such a social media managers, leads hunters, corporate backgrounds will all contribute to a more powerful and reliable team and your customers will feel that. It will be not only beneficial to your ROI but also help build trust and serenity when other businesses can realize that you are a multi-dimensionally skilled enterprise and can help them with things that would fall out of the scope of most private chauffeur companies. Offer personal assistance to your customers, not just rides.

Become a sponsor, for brands, for sports events, etc... Breaking even, or even losing a little, may benefit you in the long run. Standing out is more important than instant gratification. In return, show your logo and website on the location of the event. Talk with other business people, promote yourself, participate and offer your expertise to whomever seems interested. Don't hide your secret sauce, sharing in this world is becoming rare, and people in general will appreciate your candour. Show them how you do your work, give them tips and you may be creating partnerships with those same people down the line.

Always try to change the game. Thinking outside the box, using new methods, trying to ventures. Don't be afraid to fail. Build an app. Make a more robust reservation system. Make things easier for you and your team to work more efficiently. Invest in marketing instead of buying a new vehicle. A stagnant team is a losing team.

I always to offer our customers something more. A car ride is easy, everyone can get a car ride. An experience stays forever. Get to know your customers and their needs and offer them something more. Maybe they are on holiday. Then partner up with hotels and offer them a discounted price for booking the hotel through you. Or maybe a boat trip with their family. Visit and partner up with charter companies and offer them a wide variety of options for their stay. Same thing for activities, sports or otherwise. Remember, we are in the service industry, not exclusively in the transport industry.
