CardioGenomic Testing Alliance

CardioGenomic Testing Alliance

Hospitals and Health Care

Committed to raising awareness and utilization of genomic testing in cardiology.

About us

The CardioGenomic Testing Alliance (CGTA) is a collaborative alliance comprised of leading genomics companies and laboratories. The alliance was launched in March 2022 with the primary goal of educating heath care providers about the value of genomic testing in cardiology. Despite evolving technology and scientific guidelines from leading cardiology professional societies, utilization and awareness of genomic testing remains low among cardiovascular practitioners. This alliance seeks to unite genomics companies, laboratories, digital health companies, advocacy groups, and key leaders in cardiology to improve clinical outcomes through education and awareness of genomic testing in cardiology.

  • Looking for easy access to gene-based management for heritable aortic disorders? Be sure to check out the recording of this recent webinar, co-hosted by CGTA partner The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health, to learn more about the "Genomic Medicine Guidance app"! Developed by UTHealth, this decision support tool helps clinicians deliver concise clinical information about gene mutations that cause heritable cardiovascular diseases. An amazing resource for providers.

Watch our latest clinical webinar about the 'Genomic Medicine Guidance app'! The goal of the app is to provide easy access to gene-based management for heritable aortic disorders in clinical practice, and improve recognition and treatment of patients. For patients, consider sharing this app with your physicians to help empower your specialized care. A GADA Canada and The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health joint webinar, this virtual event is lead by Dr. Siddharth Prakash, Cardiologist, UTHealth Houston, and Dr. David Murdock, Clinical Geneticist, UTHealth. The genetic information in the app was sourced from the GADA-funded Montalcino Aortic Consortium registry and the NIH genetic repositories ClinVar and ClinGen. • We are pleased to welcome the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation as the newest partner of the CardioGenomic Testing Alliance!   The Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) is a non-profit organization focused on pediatric cardiomyopathy, a chronic and potentially life-threatening heart disease. CCF's mission is to accelerate the search for causes and cures for pediatric cardiomyopathy through increased research, education, awareness, advocacy, and support to affected children and their families.   "The Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) is proud to support the efforts of the CardioGenomic Testing Alliance in promoting awareness of genetic testing for cardiovascular diseases like cardiomyopathy. Through educational initiatives, we hope that patients and healthcare providers have a greater understanding of its value in diagnosis and treatment,” said Lisa Yue, CCF Founder and President.    CGTA is grateful for CCF’s partnership and ready to work together to raise awareness of cardiogenomic testing and the role it can play for patients with cardiomyopathies.

  • CGTA member, Illumina, is co-hosting a roundtable discussion next week focused on the transformative role of genetic testing in cardiology. "Cardiovascular Medicine in the Genomics Era: Strategies for Cardiologists to Expand Adoption of Genetic Testing" will explore the current landscape of genomic testing in cardiology, identify barriers to the adoption of genetic testing in clinical practice, and discuss strategies for educating cardiologists about the benefits of genetic testing. The entire cardiovascular medicine ecosystem must work together to address the barriers to testing and raise awareness. With projects underway looking at the barriers to testing, CGTA is fortunate to work with panelists Mauro Longoni and CGTA Scientific Advisor Joshua Knowles to address these topics. Date & Time: Thursday, May 9 at 4:30 PM Eastern Time Register today and share with your networks! https://lnkd.in/gh77pEfc

  • We would like to introduce the next genetic counselor serving as a scientific advisor for CGTA … Olivia Roy, MS, CGC! As a genetic counselor at the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease spearheading the development of the cardiogenetic outpatient clinic at Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas, Olivia is dedicated to advancing patient care through genomics. "I think the number one barrier I have seen is provider knowledge about the types of testing available,” she said. “I have seen many providers order the same tests over and over again because it is familiar to them, even if a different test might be a better option for the patient. “Creating educational tools for providers to use would be helpful to let them know of the vast amount of testing options that are available to them and their patients. Also, supporting and promoting the use of cardiogenetic providers earlier in the process of care would likely make the testing more efficient and helpful.” We are grateful to have Olivia help us develop these materials and tools.
