Exciting news! Several states, including Oregon, are expanding health care access by getting people transitioning out of prison access Medicaid/OHP. Those receiving treatment for addictions and substance use disorders can continue their path to recovery without experiencing a gap in their access to care. This not only promotes health equity, but also supports successful reentry into our communities. ❤️ https://lnkd.in/gQzKVbxv #HealthEquity #Medicaid

Columbia Pacific CCO, part of the CareOregon family, will host its Community Health Summit October 7-8 at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. Columbia Pacific has rebranded the yearly event (formerly its Substance Use Disorder Summit) to give it a broader focus on community health. This year’s themes will be substance use disorders and the regional youth system of care. As always, the goal is to learn together, inspire each other and commit to change that improves lives. The event is free and open to all. Attendees are offered continuing medical education (CME) credit hours. Moving towards a whole-person approach to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care is critical to addressing the physical, mental health, and social needs experienced during pregnancy. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are advancing a coordinated action plan to improve maternity care access and quality. A couple ways they’re doing this: Birthing Friendly Designation: CMS created the new designation to identify hospitals and health systems that participate in a statewide or national perinatal quality improvement collaborative program and that implement evidence-based care to improve maternal health. Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model: This 10-year model aims to improve maternal health and birth outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women with Medicaid or CHIP health insurance. The model works with participating states to address gaps in maternal health care.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. The brain changes that cause Alzheimer’s are thought to begin 20 years or more before symptoms start, which suggests that there may be a substantial window of time in which we can intervene in the progression of the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association offers some suggestions to take charge of your brain health: - Incorporate healthy habits that may reduce the risk of cognitive decline - Learn the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s and other dementia - Be proactive in addressing memory and thinking problems Learn more about how to care for your brain and join the cause at https://lnkd.in/euX9MFKm

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a historic day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. At CareOregon, we are committed to examining and addressing the health care inequities created by racism; including the systemic barriers faced by many members of the Black and African American community. Whether it’s funding programs like Central City Concern‘s Karibu Stabilization Program, which is helping fill a gap in culturally specific services for the Black and African American community, or sponsoring Juneteenth Oregon and showing up for our community members – we honor and celebrate the Black and African American community and continue to work towards building a brighter, healthier future for all. We’re proud to announce our support of Columbia Memorial Hospital's ambitious expansion project in Astoria. The hospital will be installing two "safer rooms" in the emergency department, which are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for patients experiencing behavioral health crises. We believe this project will have a significant positive impact on the lives of those seeking emergency care – as well as hospital staff – in Clatsop County. Our friends and partners at Trillium Family Services are at the forefront of mental health care in Oregon. They provide comprehensive care, from school-based support to specialized hospital treatment. Their ability to offer the full continuum of mental health care for youth and families is one of the many reasons why we invest to help Trillium expand its trauma-informed programming and services. We believe mental health is just as important as physical health. Together, we can improve mental health and well-being for Oregon’s youth and families, fostering a brighter, healthier future for all. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3yOD5lr
