About us

Experience LIFE in the Park! St. Louis Park's convenient location as a neighbor to Minneapolis means you're only minutes away from some of the Twin Cities' most attractive amenities: the Chain of Lakes, the downtown theater district, shopping, universities and major league sports. St. Louis Park is an established community of 10.8 square miles. In a little more than 115 years, it's grown from a village of 45 families to a community of just under 49,000 residents. St. Louis Park has a sound economic base, a healthy mix of new and traditional housing, and a nationally renowned school district – where every school has been named a National School of Excellence. Residential areas comprise the largest portion of the community. These residential areas are diverse in their social, religious and ethnic heritage – giving every neighborhood a distinct appearance and feel. St. Louis Park is also home to retail stores, restaurants, medical facilities, family-owned businesses, corporations, and churches and synagogues. St. Louis Park is also proud of the numerous trails and parks in the community. The many trails connect us to downtown Minneapolis, the Uptown area, Hopkins and Chaska. There are 52 parks throughout the city to enjoy (11.5 percent of St. Louis Park's land is set aside for parks). These parks provide recreation, community space and beauty to all St. Louis Park residents in any season. Residents of St. Louis Park enjoy a multitude of different social and recreational activities to participate in, along with diverse religious, economic and education systems. The options are endless in St. Louis Park. Likewise, the City of St. Louis Park is a place to live for a lifetime.

Ever wonder why the city is broken up into various districts, precincts and wards? Let's dive into it a little bit. 📍St. Louis Park has 2 house districts for members of the Minnesota House of Representatives. You vote for the representative of your district every 2 years. 📍Our city has 4 wards. These are jurisdictions for city council representatives. You will vote for the city council representative of your ward every 4 years. 📍Precincts are areas determined for the administration of voting and are re-evaluated every 10 years alongside the census in order to balance the number of residents in each one. Did all that info get you excited to vote? The state primary is on Aug. 13, 2024! You can vote before the election at city hall now through Aug. 12.

Have you heard the term “Missing Middle Housing”? “Missing Middle Housing” are homes and buildings with attached or clustered units that can be compatible in scale with single family homes – like courtyard cottages/bungalows, duplexes (pictured here), threeplexes, fourplexes, townhouses and low-rise apartments. As we reconsider our zoning code, we’d like your feedback on the availability of housing types in St. Louis Park. Visit https://bit.ly/3zavcXK to learn more about this initiative. Also, please attend one of the open houses to learn more and ask questions: ➡️June 24, 1-3pm at the community room at city hall (5005 Minnetonka Blvd) ➡️June 27, 6-8 pm at the Westwood Hills Nature Center (8300 W Franklin Ave)

Did you know that 80% of St. Louis Park’s residential zoned land allows only single-family detached houses? That leaves 20% for all other housing types. In 2022, the city completed a zoning code audit to identify how the current zoning code is a barrier to the development of a variety of housing types. We are now considering updates to our zoning code that will allow us to continue to welcome new residents and be a desirable place to live for community members from all walks of life. Visit https://lnkd.in/ga_s7bbN to learn more about this initiative, find an open house date to attend and leave your input.
