Check out the newly transformed Edison School Apartments! - Historic. Originally built in the 1920s as North Milwaukee High School, later transformed into Edison Middle school, this historic gem has been reimagined into 63 stunning apartments for seniors aged 55+ with 12 brand-new three-bedroom townhomes for families. And did we mention…Edison School Apartments is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places! - Preservation. Imagine living in a space that retains the charm of its original terrazzo, wood, and tile flooring, beautiful woodwork, built-in cabinetry, chalkboards, grand windows! J+J Flooring in units and Atmosphere Commercial Interiors throughout! - Amenities. Residents enjoy intentional accommodations, including a community room, fitness center, playground, community garden boxes, in-unit laundry, and storage spaces. As a bonus, the hallways will feature captivating artwork by La Familia de Arte, a vibrant local art group from Southside Milwaukee. - Affordable. It's perfect for those earning 30%-60% of the area median income. - Sustainable. The most sustainable buildings are not built; preserving a building is better for the environment than a new build, it drastically reduces the amount of demolition debris headed to a landfill. Gorman & Company reposted this
The most exciting development work I get to be part of is the preservation of history and affordable housing. The Gorman & Company Pearl Place Senior Apartments development Alan Zais's team at Winnebago Homes Association and Boone County Housing Authority is the culmination of preserved history and affordability. Many thanks to Illinois Housing Development Authority, Churchill Stateside Group, and Merchants Capital for the debt and equity to make Pearl Place the home it is today! Special thanks to Landmarks Illinois, Illinois Housing Council and all the others who helped extend the Illinois Historic Tax Credit program! Thank you National Park Service and Illinois State Historic Preservation office for putting these tools in action! Other thanks to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the VASH program and helping to ensure veterans will not go homeless. Lastly, thank you Senator Tammy Duckworth for your continued support of affordable and veterans housing!
