The Whale Report Alert System (WRAS), now integrates real-time whale sightings from the Puget Sound region. This collaboration between Ocean Wise, Orca Network, and Quiet Sound, facilitated by Maritime Blue, has dramatically increased the effectiveness of WRAS in alerting commercial mariners to the presence of whales, thereby reducing potential impacts on these endangered species. 🐋 Enjoy this article highlighting this initiative! #environmentalprotection #oceanawareness #transboundarycollaboration #marinesafety #savetheorcas #whalealert #maritimeinnovation

Back from Seattle, energized by the conversations on maritime workforce development and increasing retention. Thank you Washington Maritime Blue for putting on such a wonderful event. It was great swing by and check in with the teams at Argosy Cruises, Trident Seafoods and ioCurrents as well. I got to eat lunch at the locks and watch two of my favorite boats go through. Western Towboat Company the Pacific Titan is looking great! Best part of my visit was showing up to the event in matching outfits with my dad by accident. #innovation #maritimeindustry #maritime

Happy World Oceans Day! Today is dedicated to catalyzing collective action for a healthy ocean and a stable climate, an issue near and dear to Maritime Blue. Reflecting on an event hosted earlier this year with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), focused on convening the Greater NW ocean ecosystem around the decarbonization aspects of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Ocean Climate Action Plan (OCAP): · The Action Plan is the first US "whole of government" plan to merge ocean policy goals with the broader set of pathways to decarbonize the economy and address climate change. · The OCAP also emphasizes the importance of coastal resilience, integrating equity and green infrastructure, and engaging with coastal communities. · The NW research community, policymakers, and federal and state government entities are poised to advance our existing collaborations to support the OCAP and Blue Economy as a whole. We’re so proud of our partnerships, both stateside and internationally, to further these efforts and drive towards a stronger, cleaner and more sustainable future! Take a peek at the event summary to learn more about how the OCAP, the challenges to its implementation, and ways the NW is thinking about helping drive action. https://lnkd.in/dwwShs5w
