Wondering what the heck is going on with inflation and potential Fed rate cuts? Well, when Jerome Powell speaks, everyone tends to listen. Recent comments from the Fed chief dampened hopes of potential rate cuts happening any time soon, which signals a "higher for longer" stance. Here's what that means in my latest for RISMedia. 👇

I've worked with Nerdwallet UK for nearly a year now, and they are one of my favorite clients (along with Nerdwallet Canada). I've crafted wide-ranging articles for Hannah Nemeth on UK small business trends and Adam F. on general personal finance topics. These editors (and their copy desk) have been brilliant and lovely to work with. I've also learned so much about new content verticals (like small biz) that are outside my usual real estate/mortgage wheelhouse and built up a great source list of diverse UK contacts. Here's a recent piece I wrote that personally hit home about working with cancer and whether employers have your back. I was genuinely surprised to hear about the wide-ranging support UK workers have as they navigate illnesses in the workplace and the government protections in place. This should be the norm everywhere but, sadly, it isn't. This topic hits home because our family recently went through this with the passing of my sister-in-law, Kelly, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 41. She was a social worker with Rocky Mountain Human Services here in Denver, Colorado. The support they provided her -- from diagnosis through two brutal rounds of chemo, Whipple surgery, entering hospice and, ultimately, her passing -- was compassionate, personal and simply unmatched. It eased so much worry and fear for her (and us) knowing her health insurance and benefits were protected and she was supported by her manager, co-workers and HR team every step of the way. We were floored by how they went above and beyond for her -- and us. I wish all workers (and their families) going through the stress and uncertainty of a serious or terminal diagnosis had a similar experience but that's not always the case. That's why writing this piece was incredibly meaningful and important to me and I hope it helps educate UK workers battling cancer or another serious illness about their rights and the support available. Career paths are anything but linear, and mine is no exception. I've been a journalist and corporate communicator for two decades, spending more than 15 years of that time covering real estate and mortgages. Each career stop I've had, whether it was long or short, taught me valuable lessons. And all of those paths have led me here. For the past year, I've quietly built my own content business, keeping my head down editing and writing for national mainstream and trade media publications, and working with marketing agencies and small businesses to bring fresh vision and strategies to their content efforts. I've freelanced off and on in the past. But this year, I committed to making it my full-time focus to build something that aligns with my values and allows me to prioritize my family first while doing work I love. And although solopreneurship is not a walk in the park, it's been a rewarding journey full of growth and learning.
