I’ve never recommended a book that’s gotten more genuine reactions of interest and curiosity than Alice Katter’s Reimagining the Nature of Work. Definitely says something about my friend group, but more so, how much Alice and the Out of Office Network are tapping into something a lot of people intuitively understand: work is changing, and it’s time to get creative with how we organize ourselves.

The pandemic continues to be a fascinating study in how technology usage impacts us. Here’s another to add to the list. Myopia (short sightedness) joins shorter attention spans as another imprint of tech on our modern existence. The article discusses many potential solutions, but honestly, if we solve this problem by adding forest wallpaper and bright lights to classrooms we’ve already lost. Make nature accessible to all. It can be that straightforward.
A myopia epidemic is sweeping the globe. Here’s how to stop it

"The artists are a huge part of what drives love for Duolingo" I love that. 💚 I noticed the app icon change (🙈) which is amazing because it's actually quite subtle. So happy that Duo now has more room to express itself fully. 😉 Shout out Ryan Sims, Gregory Hartman, and the Duolingo crew.
It’s tough out there for an owl 😅 Seriously though: kudos to our incredible Duolingo artists, whose work has real business impact. This app icon change was talked about all over the internets and drove tons of learners to open their app and do a lesson. I was talking about these amazing results with Gregory Hartman who said, “It’s crazy how much influence our artists have on our brand! A single, well-placed illustration can not only drive more traffic to our app but can also reveal something special about our brand and our beloved little owl. The artists are a huge part of what drives love for Duolingo and I’m not sure how much the general public knows that.” This is one of my favorite parts about working at Duolingo. We get to be silly and push brand boundaries in the name of something really good: helping people learn something new. If this is the kind of impact you want to have, check out our open #design roles: https://lnkd.in/eHvHSUmr

Todd Diemer is one of the most thoughtful, effective researchers I've had the pleasure to work with. I started working with Todd when he was in a product design role. His research and design skills were an incredible one-two combo that helped propel our team to launch innovative features like SmartTrack. Oh, and he's hilarious and fun to work with! 😄
👋 Howdy Linkedin Community, In sad news, due to strategic shifts, my position and that of other wonderful designers, engineers, product managers, and operations folks were let go from The Obama Foundation this week. I’ve been really grateful for the chance to work with such wonderful people at the Foundation, and engage with some of the amazing young people that are leading civic change in their community. As Calvin and Hobbes once said, “It’s a magical world out there, let’s go exploring” – it’s time for my next steps. If you know of anyone looking for #UXresearch #leadership #ProductDesign or #DadJoke skill sets, please send them my way! Hope all is well in your worlds and sending high fives across the Internet.

Wanna work with me? 🙌 Starting in April I’ll be open for new projects and contract roles. If your team needs help exploring product opportunities, let’s connect! All of my clients have come from referrals. That’s people like you who knew someone who might like to work with me. It encourages me to spark those conversations with posts like this one. I’m most helpful to early-stage teams in health, wellness, and personal finance. Bonus points if behavior change or habit building is core to your product’s success; it’s where I’ve focused most. Lately, I’ve partnered with Jonathan Chao, Brian Milner, and the team at Haven to find new ways to engage homeowners around their home equity. Last year, I partnered with Corey Harrower, Tara Louise Reddy and ROLI to explore a new approach to teaching piano that uses their innovative connected keyboard. I love projects that inspire people to try on a new version of themselves; to build habits in service of that new person. I’ve been working remotely with both American and European companies since 2017. Feel free to share widely if you might know someone who could use my expertise! 🌎🙏

“Creativity is the new productivity” As the minutiae of knowledge work becomes automated with AI, ideas will remain the primary currency. Whether you’re creating or curating them, they’re what will set you apart in an ever-more rapidly evolving environment. My personal hope is that craft will get elevated along the way. 😊 Even without the merger, I’m really curious to see how Figma evolves and counties to incorporate AI into its products. This article is lengthy but worth a read. Figma rose on the back of a (then) new technology (WebGL), and I have a feeling they’ll find imaginative ways to ride this next AI wave. 🌊
Figma’s future is about far more than design—or getting acquired
