The L.A. Care and Blue Shield of California Promise Community Resource Center in West L.A. has only been open for a few months, but it is already providing much needed help to community members like Junior Ybarra. Junior was unhoused for five years, living at the beach and a tent encampment in Los Angeles. Thanks to the resources provided at the West L.A. Our Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan team is filled with passionate, mission driven people who have committed their lives to improving the health and wellness of our neighbors and communities. The work is hard, and our team takes on seemingly insurmountable challenges every day in pursuit of our mission. That’s why it was such an honor to join with colleagues to celebrate some of our amazing employees at the Blue Shield 2023 Mission & Values in Action awards. This is the highest form of recognition anyone can receive at Blue Shield. Several Blue Shield Promise employees were recognized for their work on an initiative to build the operational capacity to serve more members, improve regulatory compliance and reduce the cost of health care. Savings resulting from this work is anticipated to be $5 -$7 million annually starting in 2024. Our Wellness Warriors were also recognized for thinking outside the box to increase access to crucial well child exams that monitor children’s growth and development. #BSCPromise and L.A. Care Health Plan celebrated the grand opening of their newest Community Resource Center in #PanoramaCity with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The center will be staffed by individuals who are bilingual and bicultural and will offer a range of services including free fitness and healthy cooking classes, multi-lingual assistance with healthcare coverage options, including Medi-Cal renewals. Our healthcare providers work tirelessly to achieve the highest standards in quality, equity and care delivery and they deserve to be celebrated for the work they’re accomplishing. This is why I was thrilled to represent Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan at L.A. Care Health Plan's 7th annual Provider Recognition Awards Dinner. I had the opportunity to recognize LA County’s “healthcare heroes” – the top performing physicians, clinics, and medical groups fighting to build and maintain our regional healthcare safety net. I delivered awards to three highly esteemed honorees: Karing Physicians Medical Group, Universal Community Health Center and Dr. Robert Azurin. All the honorees at the event deserve our recognition and gratitude. We are proud to call them partners as we continue to fight health disparities and deliver high quality healthcare.
