July 11: RHP Slade Cecconi optioned to Triple-A; RHP Miguel Castro reinstated from 15-Day IL
The D-backs optioned Cecconi to Triple-A Reno on Thursday and activated Castro from the 15-Day injured list in a corresponding move. Cecconi is 2-6 with a 6.14 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 14 appearances (13 starts), and most recently allowed three earned runs and four hits in four innings against the Braves on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old allowed a combined 11 earned runs over his last three starts and had not earned a win since June 18.

“We felt like he lacked a little bit of consistency,” Lovullo said. “He showed some dominant stuff, but he couldn’t maintain it.”

Castro last pitched for the D-backs on April 20 against the Giants before he was subsequently placed on the 15-day IL on April 23 (retroactive to April 21) with right shoulder inflammation. He allowed just three hits in six innings across four rehab outings, split between the Arizona Complex League and Reno.

“He’s been grinding away at getting healthy,” Lovullo said. “He had electric stuff in his two rehab outings, and he’s ready for this opportunity again.”

10-day/15-day injured list

LHP (right knee inflammation)
Expected return: After the All-Star break
Montgomery first felt something in his right knee while walking back to the rubber with 4-5 pitches remaining in his between-starts bullpen session on June 29. He was placed on the IL on July 2 (retroactive to June 29). Imaging revealed inflammation in his right patellar tendon. Montgomery threw a bullpen session on July 9, and threw a simulated two-inning bullpen and 40 pitches on July 12. He could return the first turn through the rotation after the All-Star Break. SS (left hamstring strain; No. 1 on D-backs Top 30 Prospect list)
Expected return: Late August/early September
Two games into a rehab assignment in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League, Lawlar reinjured his left hamstring and is expected to miss six to eight weeks, D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said on July 10. The club's top prospect initially injured his left hamstring while legging out a triple in the ninth inning of Triple-A Reno's June 15 game. Lawlar had an MRI exam on June 17 that showed a Grade 1 strain.

The 2021 first-rounder also landed on the IL earlier this year after opening the 2024 campaign with a thumb injury. He played his first Minor League game of the season on May 29. (Last updated: July 10)

LHP (left elbow strain)
Expected return: TBD
Walston is undergoing a throwing program, and he has been throwing from 60 to 100 feet.

After his June 4 start against the Giants, Walston informed the team that he had been experiencing some discomfort in his elbow. A subsequent MRI exam showed inflammation. (Last updated: June 25)

60-day IL

RHP (right shoulder strain)
Expected return:
Early August
Kelly felt something grab in his shoulder while playing catch in the outfield at Oracle Park on April 20 and landed on the IL April 23. He threw a bullpen session on July 9 and a simulated two-inning bullpen and 32 pitches on July 12. (Last updated: July 12)

LHP (left lat strain)
Expected return:
Early August
Rodriguez, who was injured on March 19 in a Cactus League game, underwent another MRI on July 6, which showed that his lat has healed. So he will begin to ramp up his throwing program. The team had been taking things very slowly since Rodriguez had a setback early in the process. His initial throwing program was paused after he experienced some discomfort in the left lat following an April 9 bullpen session. On April 17, Rodriguez was moved to the 60-day IL. Rodriguez threw a bullpen session on July 9 and threw a simulated two-inning bullpen and 30 pitches on July 12. (Last updated: July 12)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Jameson underwent Tommy John surgery last September and per manager Torey Lovullo he is expected to miss the entire 2024 season. Jameson began throwing off a mound for the first time on July 5, and was expected to throw a bullpen session on July 12. (Last updated: July 11)

LHP (thoracic outlet surgery)
