Engine Power's Pat Topolinski and Mike Galley got the brilliant idea to build a race car in honor of Summit Racing's® 50th Anniversary. And since Summit Racing™ is a sponsor of the DIRTcar Modified Nationals race series, they decided to build a DIRTcar UMP Dirt Modified based on an Impressive Race Cars rolling chassis—and gave a lucky racer the chance to own it by auctioning it off for charity. Brilliant! At the heart of the Dirt Modified is a 409 cu. in., 13.3:1 compression small block Chevy making 655 peak horsepower and 564 lbs.-ft. of peak torque at a down-low 5,000 rpm. The engine is based on a World Product Motown Pro lightweight iron block with an Eagle Specialties Ultra-Lightweight 3.750 in. stroke forged crank, Eagle H-beam connecting rods, and a Mahle Powerpak forged piston and ring kit. The camshaft is a special-grind COMP Cams solid roller (261°/271° duration @.050, .691 in. of lift, 109° centerline). The short block is crowned with a Brodix top-end kit with STS Track 1 aluminum cylinder heads, highrise single plane intake manifold, valve covers, and hardware.
