What do you reckon makes working on #infrastructure projects so fulfilling? Whether you’re a natural leader, a seasoned professional or an aspiring specialist, we encourage our people to stay curious, solving real-world challenges that make a sustained contribution to communities. Recently, our #rail team in Prague, Czechia, was invited by industry partner EUROVIA CZ to see intensive modernisation efforts at a local project site as it nears completion – an excellent opportunity to explore ideas and connect with peers and colleagues. Inspired by their experience? Have a look at our current opportunities and match your skills to an area that resonates with you. 👇 https://mottm.ac/3pd3obc #STEMCareers #EngineeringJobs

Things are taking shape in Birmingham as we celebrate the completion of four huge piers for the 150-metre-long #HS2 superstructure, the Bellingham Bridge. 🎉 Taking its nickname from England footballer, Jude Bellingham, the bridge design celebrates the area’s industrial heritage. It will carry high-speed trains over the existing Victorian brick rail viaduct, with a 25-metre-high curved truss displaying a vibrant light installation. We’re delighted to mark this significant milestone in the construction of the one-mile sequence of #viaducts that will take high-speed trains in and out of Birmingham, with our client HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd, Balfour Beatty VINCI and our design joint venture partners, SYSTRA. 🎥 by HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd Read more, here. 👇 https://mottm.ac/4cWX0xf SYSTRA UK & Ireland #HighSpeedRail

🎧 Travel back to 1934 as we prepare to share the story of the Queensway Tunnel in the next episode of our #heritage podcast series with Engineering Matters. 🚇 #ThenNowTomorrow Dreams of building a subaqueous crossing beneath the River Mersey to connect Liverpool and Birkenhead, UK, began in the late 1800s. It wasn't until the next century that the most experienced and respected #engineers were called to explore the possibilities. Among them was Sir Basil Mott. The #QueenswayTunnel project set a new standard for #tunnel design and construction. It was so difficult that King George V declared it a miracle when he opened it 90 years ago on 18 July 1934. The engineers lacked the wealth of ground information that we have now. This meant they had to investigate from within the tunnel to address major challenges, such as loose ground and fractured rock, which posed the risk of collapse and flooding of the tunnel. The ingenuity of these engineers laid the groundwork for projects delivered by our industry today. We've applied many of their pioneering innovations into designs for rock #tunnels all over the world ever since - from Istanbul, Türkiye to Ohio, USA. Join us on 18 July to discover more as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of this outstanding accomplishment in technical innovation! Images courtesy of Merseytravel

At Mott MacDonald, we recognise that urgent action is needed by the infrastructure industry to put nature on the same footing as carbon reduction. The need for fast paced change now comes from the opportunity for nature to support decarbonisation of infrastructure developments. 🌿 "Nature: the missing piece of the net zero puzzle," the latest report from Net-Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition (NZIIC), illustrates why enhancing nature and reducing carbon emissions must be considered together. This report is the first from the NZIIC to place emphasis firmly on enhancing nature alongside decarbonisation for infrastructure developments. 🏗️ This latest publication from the NZIIC, founded by Mott MacDonald, underscores the urgency of this dual approach. By considering the carbon sequestration capabilities of nature, we can avoid unintended consequences and achieve holistic environmental benefits. 📖 Read the full report here: https://mottm.ac/4cyNFMt #Sustainability #Nature #NetZero #Infrastructure #environment #NZIIC

A new report ‘Making transport fit for the future’ launches today at the London Transport Museum with Transport for London. In an age of uncertainty, the report helps to give a voice to those who use - or wish to use - the UKs transport system, while responding to their needs with three building blocks that policymakers can use to create real-world, practical policy solutions. The report has been produced by our specialists and follows workshops held across the country as part of the museum's Interchange programme, together with partners Gowling WLG and Hitachi Rail. Taking on the views of over 60 organisations, it exists as a challenge to industry, transport authorities, government and policy makers to put customer desires central to decision making. We’re proud to announce that our Regional Connector Project in Downtown Los Angeles was awarded Rail Transit Project of the Year at the 35th Annual CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION FOUNDATION Transportation Awards. 🏆 By offering an alternative to congested roadways, the Regional Connector encourages a modal shift from car to #rail transport. This brings potential environmental benefits, while improved access to transport and shorter journey times open new opportunities for people throughout Los Angeles County. 🚆 The Regional Connector links Los Angeles Metro’s entire 80-station system to southern California’s regional passenger rail system, Metrolink, which services 55 stations. We were involved from 2014 as detail designer for Regional Connector Constructors (RCC), a joint venture between Skanska USA and Traylor Bros., Inc. Read more about how we’ve helped encourage Angelenos towards public transport with less stress, less pollution, and quicker connections: 👇 https://mottm.ac/4cRasmb #CTFAwards #LATransportation #CaliforniaTransportation

Sydney’s streetlights first flickered to life on 8 July 1904, when the switch key was turned at the Pyrmont Power Station. 💡 The arc lamps in the new system created both heat and light – once luxuries only the wealthy could afford to purchase through private companies. The Australian coal-powered station designed by Major Philip Cardew of our predecessor firm, Preece & Cardew, included four steam turbines turning generators. These produced three-phase alternating current (AC) electricity at 5kV. The current was converted to direct current at #substations, for distribution through a three-wire network supplying arc #lighting in the city centre. Over the next few years, Thomas Rooke of Preece & Cardew oversaw work to increase capacity and transmit this throughout the city and surrounding areas – expanding #electricity supply for manufacturing and domestic use. This world-leading expertise in #electrification has been called on around the world and our state of the art systems powered tramways, railways, streetlights, factories, and homes, stitching together the fabric of society. Today, we face new challenges that demand the same levels of innovative thinking and #TechnicalExcellence, to help nations meet the challenge of providing power to people and businesses as part of sustainable #CarbonNeutral economies. Stay tuned for more on this story when we revisit it in a new season of our #heritage podcast series with Engineering Matters later this year. In the meantime, you can explore our heritage, here. 👇 https://mottm.ac/3se6rmo #ThenNowTomorrow Images courtesy of City of Sydney Archives

Our early career Strategic Design Partnership (SDP) leads, Chuxuan Zhang and Nuwanthi Thennakoonwela, teamed up with early career leads from Jacobs, AtkinsRéalis, and Balfour Beatty plc, to host a hybrid carbon-themed hackathon. Early career representatives from all four companies worked together, to devise innovative tools and streamlined processes for #CarbonReduction. The hackathon showcased fantastic outcomes and the winning team emerged with an industry-ready tool that holds immense promise. This achievement underscores the power of #collaboration in addressing climate challenges, paving the way toward a more #sustainable future. We firmly believe we can drive meaningful change by working together, and the Strategic Design Partnership exemplifies this commitment. Well done to all of the participants, including our very own Adam Attwater, Joshua Farnsworth, Troy Loxley and Lydia Wong! Stay tuned for updates on our journey toward carbon neutrality. #Sustainability #EarlyCareers
