The 5 Essential Hotel Toiletry Supplies Every Room Needs

No room is complete without them

There are approximately 5.29 million hotel rooms in the United States. That’s a lot of choice when it comes to offering your guests a place to lay their heads.

At Walmart Business, we understand that running a successful hotel starts with catering to your guests’ expectations, including bathrooms stocked with hotel toiletry supplies.

Here’s a list of what to have on hand to keep guests happy.

What guests expect

According to Lodging Magazine, a full third of hotel guests surveyed expect their preferred toiletries when checking into a hotel. Focusing on quality products that meet or exceed their expectations will keep them coming back.

According to a Booking.com survey, 71% of travelers are concerned about sustainability. If you’re looking for a way to help your hotel stand out, stocking eco-friendly or locally sourced products is a great place to start. Look for biodegradable packaging where you can.

Essential hotel toiletry supplies

Your guests expect a certain number of toiletries available in a room when they check in. While you will score high marks from guests for providing more, we wouldn’t provide less than this list.

Soap

From washing hands at the sink to washing bodies in the shower, bar soap and body wash are top of the list of expected toiletries in a hotel room. Hotels traditionally offered individually wrapped soaps for both showers and sinks, but there is a growing trend toward providing body washes for shower use.

The quality of the products you offer will make an impression, so carefully consider value versus luxury brands and pick the one that best suits your hotel and your guests’ needs. The brand of toiletries you choose may even become a selling point for your hotel.

Shampoo and conditioner

You can either offer shampoo and conditioner in individual sizes or full bottles. Individual bottles are typically easier to refill, but refilling full-size bottles has a positive environmental impact.

It may take a little more effort to find hair care products that are paraben- and sulfate-free, but guests with sensitive skin will appreciate it.

Moisturizer

No hotel room is complete without moisturizer. Oil-free moisturizers are suitable for virtually any skin type and help avoid that greasy feeling. You might also want to stock some aloe for anyone who stays out in the sun too long, especially if your hotel is near a beach (or has a great pool!).

Paper products

Whether you fold the edge into a triangle or not, a roll of toilet tissue is a must-have for an en-suite bathroom. Thicker ply tissue feels nicer, but might not be suitable for your hotel’s plumbing. Don’t forget facial tissues both in the bathroom and by the bed.

Hair dryer

Although some people still travel with their own hair dryer, guests have come to expect one in their room. Not every guest will need one, so one way to economize is to keep a few at the front desk and available upon request.
