Last Wednesday Banker Steel employees participated in United Way of Central Virginia’s Annual Day of Caring. Every year, hundreds of volunteers from Central Virginia companies take the day off work to complete projects for local nonprofits. This year, we assisted the Campbell County Training School with renovations to their four buildings that will eventually serve as cultural, educational and historical spaces for community-centered activities meant to foster a more educated citizenry. This month’s team member highlight features Robert " Bean " Hicks, Banker Steel’s Plant Manager for the Wythe Rd facility. Bean has been in the steel industry for 25 years, with 10 of those being at Banker Steel. A few aspects of his job that he enjoys most are the daily variety of work and fabricating complex pieces. The biggest win of his time at Banker Steel was turning the safety culture of his plant around. His dedication to safety shows, with his plant going 2+ years without a recordable incident. Additionally, working on steel members for JPMorgan Chase’s headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in midtown Manhattan, was a high point of his career at Banker Steel. For those just starting out in the industry, Bean has these words of encouragement: ‘Not all days are good ones, but the end result is worth it.’ When Bean isn’t fabricating steel he enjoys spending time with his 3 amazing kids and watching football (Go Chiefs!). Bean, thanks for your hard work and dedication to Banker Steel!

The Tigers are currently 2nd in the league and hoping to gain even more ground as they round out the regular season and head to the playoffs. Way to go, Tigers!

An incredible view!
Above the clouds. An amazing look at two of our favorite projects. Standing at 1,401 and 1,388 feet respectively, One Vanderbilt and 270 Park Ave. are instant celebrities standing alongside arguably the most iconic skyscraper ever built. #skyscraper #newyorkcity #steel #construction
