1023 community members. That is the total number of unique people that came to one of our Art Workshops last week and helped create mural pieces that will forever live in our new building. Thank you so much for those that came out and played with clay, cut glass, and shared stories about how art helped them through hard points in their lives. Missed our June Art Workshops? There will be more opportunities this summer! Visit https://lnkd.in/gPehb4uF for information about upcoming opportunities. A special thank you to 10 East Arts & Alley Cat Ceramics for hosting the sessions and Empact Art for guiding everyone through the process. #publicart #murals #art #communityart #communityengagement #indianapolis #artworkshops #hiv #endhiv

Safe Syringe Programs are a vital tool in the fight to end HIV, and we applaud the City of Indianapolis City County Council for reauthorizing the program for another 2 years! Since we opened our Safe Syringe Program in 2022, we have handed out over 1 million syringes, distributed thousands of doses of Narcan, and provided life saving resources for members of our community who often are overlooked. To read about the reauthorization and what it means for our community, please visit https://lnkd.in/g6BursUe

The passion brought to the local community by AmeriCorps members is an asset for building a brighter future. We are grateful for the work they provide to our organization and each community within Indianapolis.
I feel so privileged to have been able to lead my AmeriCorps team this year on our long term project. Our team hosted a community resource fair for our unhoused neighbors in Indianapolis, IN at the Garfield Park Arts Center. Through our research with the yearly Point in Time Count that counts the number of sheltered and unsheltered people who are experiencing homelessness on a single night in a community, we were able to see that African American males over the age of 35 are the highest number of people experiencing homelessness. We worked diligently to partner with 25+ local organizations such as Horizon House, Eskenazi Health, BellFlower Clinic, BU Wellness Network, Damien Center, Empire Beauty School, Gennesaret Free Clinics, CHANGING FOOTPRINTS . ORG, Indiana Immunization Coalition, and Marion County Public Health Department to provide essential services to this population. Through fundraising efforts we were able to raise a little under $15,000 to support this population. This money was used directly to provide food, clothing, warm weather kits, hygiene kits, and sleeping gear such as blankets, tarps and sleeping bags. We were also able to provide a variety of free services such as haircuts, STI testing, vaccinations, medical check ups, dental services, shoes and fresh produce through the partnerships we made with agencies in the community. Our resource fair was able to provide services and resources to 240 unhoused neighbors. I will forever be changed by the interactions I had with these individuals. Hearing their stories first hand, gave me a deeper understanding into the experience of unhoused individuals in our community. Our event was able to provide a safe space for a large amount of people who are often overlooked. I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity and hope to continue to help this population throughout my career. We are extremely grateful to our sponsors- Cummins Inc. Serve Indiana, The Health Foundation Of Greater Indianapolis Inc, Gilead Sciences, BU Wellness Network, Indy Hygiene Hub, Deborah’s Place, I Support The Girls, and Indy Parks and Recreation for their generosity towards our efforts.
