About us

Creating spaces for LGBTQ+ young people since 1987. IYG serves young people ages 12-24 who self-identify as LGBTQ+, as well as their ally peers. All programs and services are offered free of charge. IYG strives to provide safer spaces to build self-confidence, explore individualism, and develop friendships within the LGBTQ+ community. IYG promotes a space of acceptance, equity, and restorative practices. We also advocate for LGBTQ+ young people in schools, the community, and through family support services.

For the past 12 years, RJ has cultivated a diverse teaching background, spanning 10 years in international schools (American United School of Kuwait & The International School of Indiana). His expertise lies in both the American (Common Core) and International Baccalaureate (MYP & DP) curriculums, with 6 years spent teaching Performing Arts using each. Currently in his fourth year as an IB DP Theatre Examiner, RJ brings a deep understanding of the program's demands and empowers students to excel within it. Throughout his career, RJ has thrived in a variety of Performing Arts disciplines, including general music, vocal music, instrumental music, and theatre. His passion extends beyond the classroom, where he has directed choirs, bands, plays, and musicals, fostering a vibrant artistic community within the schools he serves. While holding K-12 certification in Performing Arts, RJ's primary focus has been on grades 6-12, although his experience extends as young as 4th grade. Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education, RJ is a strong advocate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ). He has actively participated in committees shaping global citizenship initiatives and has been entrusted with being in discussions on student life and DEIJ policies. For the past four years, RJ has co-sponsored the GSA Chapter (Alliance) at the International School of Indiana, further demonstrating his commitment to creating a safe and inclusive space for all students.
