About us

Safe Kids Worldwide is a global nonprofit dedicated to protecting kids from preventable injuries, the number one cause of death to children in the United States. Around the world, a child dies every 30 seconds from an injury that could have been prevented. Safe Kids is a go-to resource to help parents keep kids safe from car crashes, fires, falls, poisoning and more. Through more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. and partners in more than 30 countries, Safe Kids works with children’s hospitals, trauma centers, first responders and public health experts to get life-saving information to families. Together, we can help all kids grow up healthy and safe.

I’m so proud of my fantastic team at Safe Kids Worldwide and their unending commitment to keeping the world safe for children. Last week, for National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we all decided to #WearOrange to bring awareness to the hundreds of preventable tragedies that occur as a result of #gunviolence.   Roughly a third of American children live in homes with firearms, and 4.6 million live with unlocked, loaded guns. We are a proud partner of Everytown for Gun Safety's Be SMART program to educate families and communities about the vital importance of the safe storage of firearms.   Our message to families: If you have guns in your home, keep them out of reach and out of sight of children by storing them securely. Store guns unloaded and secured with effective, child-resistant gun locks in a locked container, out of the reach and sight of children. Keep ammunition in a separate locked container, out of the reach and sight of kids. Use combination locks and safes, or safes that use fingerprint recognition locks. Keep the combinations carefully hidden. When it comes to guns in the home, make safety your number one consideration!

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 At Safe Kids Worldwide, we are committed to equity in child safety. We are proud to provide ALL families with life-saving education, information, and devices. To achieve our mission of keeping all kids safe from preventable injuries, it is critical that we take steps to reach marginalized communities. We don’t want ANY parent to lose a child to an injury that can be prevented.

It's National Volunteer Week! Our Safe Kids Worldwide President, Torine Creppy, attended Safe Kids Cherokee County's special Car Seat Check. This event marked the 25th anniversary of the terrible crash involving Michele and Brooke Ice, who's car seat had been inspected just two weeks before the crash. Our president presented the Safe Kids Champion Award to individuals involved in saving Brooke's life! We want to thank all the Safe Kids coordinators, Child Passenger Safety Technicians, and volunteers who make events like these possible across the nation! We want to thank you for your involvement in our mission, for passionately working to promote positive change and reduce the risk of injury, for helping us reach more families and communities. Thank you as always for your time, kindness, and dedication to the children and families you serve.

Safe Kids Worldwide is proud to be recognized by Children's National Hospital with an Honorable Mention for the 2024 Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. As our team implements our new strategic plan focused on equity in child safety, we will continue to work toward lasting change. By focusing on groups that have been historically marginalized and underserved, we can reach communities that are at higher risk for unintentional injuries and make a bigger impact for the children and families who need us most. Our preventive efforts must meet the needs of ALL families.

I am excited to share that Children's National Hospital recognized Safe Kids Worldwide with an honorable mention for the 2024 Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. After 25-years here at Safe Kids, it's an honor to be recognized by our parent organization for our work to address inequities in child safety. We know from our experience that we can change outcomes for children and families but what we’ve also learned is that to protect every child and to provide the impact that every parent deserves, we must identify and engage with communities that have been historically marginalized and underserved and are therefore at greater risk of preventable injury. Our work is guided by the Injury Equity Framework developed by Sadiqa Kendi, MD, MPH and Michelle Macy, members of our Equity Advisory Committee, and I am proud to work by their side. It is a tremendous opportunity to make real progress in addressing the leading causes of fatal unintentional injury in kids. By focusing on equity, we can drastically reduce injuries and deaths for not only the communities most impacted, but for everyone. I look forward to working with like-minded partners to provide ALL families with the tools and resources they need to keep kids safe from preventable injuries. Thank you for your leadership and mentorship, Nathaniel Beers, Michelle Riley-Brown, MHA, FACHE, Donna Anthony, Denice Cora-Bramble.
