When you think of a successful leader, what image comes to mind?   More and more of the younger generation are re-considering what it means to be a leader, and whether the long hours and corporate-specific drive it takes to be successful in business are worth it. Can a successful leader be someone who “has it all” – a successful career, a loving family, personal health (physical and mental), great friendships, financial wealth, passionate hobbies, charitable contributions, etc.? And can having a balanced life actually make you a better leader?   This International Women's Day, we asked JC Townend, President, LHH UK & Ireland, to share her perspectives on “Having it all?”   We’d love to hear your thoughts on striking a life balance that is meaningful to you, and we welcome your perspective in the comments below. #IWD2024 #ElevatingWomenInLeadership #LHHLeadershipDevelopment

Having it all...sometimes it feels more like I'm spinning plates and trying not to let one drop, and that having it all seems like a distant and very lofty aspiration to me. This is in no small way thanks to the stage of life I am at, playing mum to two young boys whilst working fulltime. Time IS the most scarce and precious resource we have and guarding it fiercely to ensure it is spent on the areas of our life that we care about is such great advice. It can sometimes feel as though life and work take hold of my time, rather than me being in control of it. This is a great reminder to be intentional about owning and protecting it. JC, thank you so much for sharing your perspective.

This is one of the best things I ever learnt from JC Townend! It totally changed the way I looked at work and life! Also, learned that 70 hours a week when stuff goes well is very energising, and when it isn’t going well it’s tiring - but the issue was actually working 70 hours a week 😀!
