We asked Portia Curlee what skill developed during her teaching career has helped her most in her role as Human Resources Manager at Silicon Mountain. Here's what she had to say: "I had a suspicion when I was a teacher that there weren't going to be many things I couldn't learn to do; now that I've been in several different roles in the business world, that suspicion is inching towards a confirmed belief! Truthfully, teaching remains the most difficult thing I've ever done, in terms of complexity, work volume, emotional burden, and stress management, and I'm still so proud of all my teacher friends and former colleagues. So many of my teaching skills have transferred, including stress and time management and the ability to learn material and clearly teach others that material. Of significance has been my ability to empathetically work with people." #TeacherAppreciationWeek2024 #SiliconMountain

We asked Gabe Puckett what skill developed during his teaching career has helped him most in his role as UX Designer at Silicon Mountain. Here's what he had to say: "As a former Prek and chess teacher, it was critical for me to be able to break things down into their simplest form and communicate it to my students concisely. This skill impacts my work as a UX designer every day. I need to be able to communicate instructions or processes easily and intuitively to the user. My concise UX writing with clear promptings has been hugely impacted by my seven years in the classroom. As my education coach once told me, 'If you can explain something to a four-year-old, you can explain it to anyone.'" #TeacherAppreciationWeek2024 #SiliconMountain

We asked Kimberly Hurt what skill developed during her teaching career has helped her most in her role as Project Manager at Silicon Mountain. Here's what she had to say: "One skill I developed as a third-grade teacher that has benefited me in my role as a project manager is effective communication. Teaching young students required me to be clear, patient, and adaptable in conveying complex information in an understandable manner. This experience has proven helpful in managing projects, where clear communication is crucial for coordinating team efforts, navigating project challenges, and achieving successful outcomes." #TeacherAppreciationWeek2024 #SiliconMountain
