Odessa is known for its architecture and warm breezes from the Black Sea. But amidst the historic stone buildings, explosions rumble and sirens wail as the city is repeatedly shelled. Despite the daily horrors of living in a war zone, a band of compassionate elderly citizens has chosen to stay and protect thousands of stray cats and dogs left behind. They are the Grandmothers of Odessa. Read their story below. #Ukraine #AmplifyTheGood https://hubs.ly/Q02DkqTy0

Nearly 26,000 acres were recently ravaged by wildfires in New Mexico, causing widespread displacement and devastation. We mobilized our Disaster Response Team to Ruidoso, partnering with organizations on the ground to support hundreds of displaced families in the community and on the nearby Mescalero Apache Reservation, pets, and even livestock. The need for aid is ongoing as communities recover. Read an overview of our response to these fires in the blog below. #DisasterRelief #AmplifyTheGood https://hubs.ly/Q02FhpdX0

When the Salt Fire began to pose a threat to Ruidoso, New Mexico, this man who runs a summer camp in the area had to take action to evacuate the 300 kids under his care. Now, having gotten everyone to safety but displaced himself, he's still taking action and volunteering to help others affected by the fires. We're proud to have supported him and the summer camp attendees with Good Packs to help them stay comfortable after having to evacuate suddenly. Stories like this inspire us to continue our mission to #AmplifyTheGood, and we hope they inspire you, too! #DisasterRelief

FIELD UPDATE: Our team on the ground in Spencer, IA, is distributing supplies and assisting with clean up and pet rescue efforts alongside local partners like People for Pets Shelter and Humane Society of Northwest Iowa. Today, we helped People for Pets Shelter rescue a cat and dog who had been alone in their home in the evacuation zone since Saturday. They were scared, hungry and dehydrated, but we got them safely into kennels and transported to the shelter to be reunited with their family. Our VP of Field Operations Laura Littlebear explains the scene on the ground: “Due to the quick and severe nature of the flooding, many residents were forced to leave their pets behind. Fortunately, our partners rapidly responded to help bring them to safety. It is difficult to describe the horrific damage the flooding caused. Everyone’s belongings are in their yards as water is being pumped out of homes. The recovery effort is just beginning and there’s a long road ahead.” Greater Good Charities will be there to assist on this road to recovery. We are grateful for the opportunity to help the people and pets of this community. #DisasterRelief #AmplifyTheGood

For many survivors of domestic violence, their pets are their home during a time of major turmoil and change. Being able to bring their beloved cat or dog with them out of a situation of abuse to a shelter is a matter of survival, for both person and pet. We're proud to keep families together through our Rescue Rebuild program. The RR team renovates domestic violence shelters to be able to accommodate pets, ensuring that critical bonds like this woman's and Sasha's stay in tact. 🧡 This July, #RescueRebuild is renovating a DV shelter in Boulder, Colorado, and YOU can help!
