CNRE Assistant Professor Eranga Galappaththi of the Department of Geography explores the dynamic interactions between human and natural systems among 11 Indigenous communities in Sri Lanka and the Canadian Arctic. His research explores both the impacts of human-made changes to our global environments, and how Indigenous communities make decisions to share information and develop responses to challenges. "Within these different Indigenous communities, we want to identify real community needs, wants, and strengths and how they can use those strengths to build resilience toward each specific issue,” said Galappaththi, whose collaborative team was awarded a 2023 International Joint Initiative for Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation grant, coordinated jointly by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Canada's New Frontiers in Research Fund. Senior Extension agent Adam Downing shares his reflections on more than 20 years of service connecting forestry knowledge to communities and citizens in Virginia, as well as the experiences that brought him to the field and what drives him forward. There are so many different aspects of extension work that I enjoy, but I particularly enjoy being a part of both the forestry community and the academic community," said Downing. "Having built – and continuing the build – so many relationships with other natural resource professionals, volunteers, landowners, loggers, and more is the joy of my work." #VCE Read Adam's story here: https://lnkd.in/eYEa9izm

Students and fans got to meet Burton—a native of South Boston, VA—and take a look inside the No. 4 car. #TBT
