DYK: There are between 1,000 and 1,500 tide gates in estuaries along the Oregon Coast and in waters connecting to the Columbia River. Keeping tide gates in good working condition can help many fish access the habitat they need to thrive. Learn more about TNC's work with tide gates: https://nature.ly/4cQhJCU

On July 6, 2021, a wildfire started by lightning, burned for 39 days and charred 413,000 acres, including land that is home to members of The Klamath Tribes and TNC's Sycan Marsh Preserve. We know that now, more than ever before, Oregon and states in the western United States need ecological forest restoration treatments, including careful thinning and reintroducing low-severity fire, to protect dry forests in the face of climate change. We are grateful for the courageous efforts and professionalism of the fire teams, local communities, partner agencies, and TNC staff that traveled to south central Oregon from across the country to contain the Bootleg Fire. 📷: Brady Holden, TNC Staff

Why do estuaries matter? These ecologically critical habitats, where rivers and oceans meet, are life-sustaining to countless species. When they suffer due to development or agriculture, the entire ecosystem suffers. Learn how The Nature Conservancy in Oregon is working to restore these dynamic habitats that are disappearing from the Oregon Coast.
